Yankee...
You aren't going to try to smuggle any bamboo into Baja are ya?

A-OK - 4-4-2005 at 10:40 AM

If your trailer was closer to San Diego I could do it any weekend.

jrbaja - 4-4-2005 at 12:01 PM

sinko, I had no idea you were so obsessed with bamboo. I can get local bamboo for you so it really doesn't need to be smuggled in. Besides, bamboo is not even confiscated at the border or ag. checks as most people are aware of the benefits of growing it as I am sure you are aware.

Cincodemayo - 4-4-2005 at 12:45 PM

Junior...
I'm obsessed with palms, bamboo, orchids, bromeliads and most plants. You got any of the Phyllostachys negra "Nano"?
Those beauties get 40-60 feet with 4-5 inch diameter poles...

Not yet but in the plans.

jrbaja - 4-4-2005 at 12:57 PM

So far, Oldhamii and Guadua and perhaps one other type that we are not quite sure of.

Cincodemayo - 4-4-2005 at 01:04 PM

Ever been to Botanical Partners or bambooheadquarters.com down in Vista? They are suppose to have an incredible collection..

Not yet

jrbaja - 4-4-2005 at 01:16 PM

I think David k. was trying to set me up with those guys but still haven't made it. I'm actually sticking with native bamboos at this time but have property cleared for expansion of other types.:bounce:

Cincodemayo - 4-4-2005 at 01:27 PM

Sounds like a great endeavor...next time we're down at our Stepford wive's mansion I'll look into touring your creation..

Cincodemayo - 4-4-2005 at 01:29 PM

I've got about 15 different species of bamboo at our place along with cold hardy palms, bananas and cannas. Looks like Hawaii in the Pacific NW.

Cincodemayo - 4-4-2005 at 01:35 PM

When and if you do contact them call Ralph. He was a good friend of mine when he ran a nursery called Vista Hill. Tell him David from Dahl Tropicals sent ya....

BambooHeadquarters.com

Well then

jrbaja - 4-4-2005 at 01:36 PM

In spite of our differences, we obviously have a lot in common. The platanos were just planted last week and the bamboo happens every week. Palms are abundant as well as 12 kinds of fruit trees including two kinds of mangos.
My girlfriend makes tropical purses and wall hangings and we are doing an art show with these as well as bamboo items in Los Barriles on the 10th.
Tropical es mi vida!!

Cincodemayo - 4-4-2005 at 01:45 PM

Well amigo...We'll have to toast a frio cerveza and chat plants despite the past. Would love to see your digs.

The past

jrbaja - 4-4-2005 at 01:50 PM

and these posts are just cheap entertainment. In real life I just like beer:lol: Probably same as most of the folks on here! You are welcome anytime!

Cincodemayo - 4-4-2005 at 01:56 PM

Muchas gracias Senor...I'll bring the cervezas and you can supply the shrimp.....

Shrimp Shanghais

jrbaja - 4-4-2005 at 02:01 PM

aren't going on at this time of year but, I think something can probably be arranged. Like mango salsa and some mighty fine fruit concoctions.:light:

Cincodemayo - 4-4-2005 at 02:08 PM

Are you planning to put any avacado trees in at all??

bajaruby - 4-4-2005 at 02:11 PM

Is anyone going to answer the question?
How soon, and what size ball do you have on your trailer? I am up in Sutter Creek and just dying for a reason to go to baja:bounce::bounce::bounce:
What is this thing with bambo, I don't get it.

[Edited on 4-4-2005 by bajaruby]

Sorry Ruby

jrbaja - 4-4-2005 at 03:49 PM

just a little off track :lol::lol:

One of "these things with bambu" is posted on the Baja Bamboo thread. I just happen to be growing it and making furniture and stuff out of it. You will be seeing it become more and more popular very soon as the flooring has already spread and westerners are becoming curious.
Yep, we are planting aguacates of different types but my neighbors already have about 3 or 4 kinds producing.
And Limas, Limon Dulce, Limones, 2 kinds of Oranges, 2 kinds of Mangos, 2 kinds of Grapefruit, Mandarinas, Guava, Bananas, and Papaya.
We are just starting gardens with vegetables and flowers.

Baja Bamboo Park is a kick !!:bounce::bounce:
