Overnight trip, no border wait!!!!

John Harper - 11-22-2020 at 09:46 AM

Went south yesterday am for dental appointment. Stayed at roommate's place in Campo Lopez overnight. We went to eat at Marisco's in Puerto Nuevo. Puerto Nuevo was packed with people, everyone masked, distanced, and polite. Haven't had lobster in years, and they made tortillas on site. Quite tasty, and reasonably priced. I paid $30 for 3 half lobsters, an Indio, and a margarita.

Left at 5:45 this morning, passed several "convoys" of racers and support trucks, plus a lot of traffic, so I expected the border to be a nightmare.

I couldn't believe it, drove right up (REGULAR lanes!!) and there was almost no traffic. I even crossed those old metal topes and still no stopping. They also opened up several more lanes and I scooted in with just 2 cars in front of me.

Was home by 7:20 this morning. An hour and a half from Campo Lopez to Carlsbad. I have never crossed so quickly, completely blew me away.

We came home yesterday (Saturday) from San Felipe, crossed at Mexicali west at 9:30 and there were only three cars in front of us, I was in shock as well. Took us leas than 10 minutes to cross only because it took 5 minutes to change the booth agent when it was our turn. This was also through the standard lanes!

mtgoat666 - 11-22-2020 at 10:23 AM

Border traffic is light because most Mexicans can’t cross border northbound due to ban on non-essential travel, and most gringos choosing wisely (and doing civic duty) to not participate in non-essential travel.

I had that good fortune at Tecate once about six years ago. One car in front of me, and none behind me, so the agent and I just chatted a bit and I was across in abut five minutes.

I hope the trend continues when I cross sometime Tuesday.

hope you all waved at the sentri holders as you cruised thru!:P

Holy hypocrisy.

Do what I say, not as a do. You should be ashamed.

BajaBlanca - 11-22-2020 at 11:37 AM

Great that the crossing was a breeze!

JZ - 11-22-2020 at 12:37 PM

That's not how it works.

He has chastised ppl for going there for months.

But the minute it's convenient for him, he goes and lives it up. Drinking and eating lobsters.

Unbelievable.

Shorty mcjizzy,
You keep telling everyone to go to Mexico and not worry about the trump virus,... so why you attacking him when he follows your advice? Hypocritical, are you?

JZ - 11-22-2020 at 01:37 PM

Really guys, are you that obtuse?

Of course I want ppl to go and support the economy of Baja. If it was anyone else it would be celebrated.

It's just stunning that the op and you ppl have been scaring others off from going for months, and now decide It's fine for you to go.

If you can't see the hypocrisy in that I'm not sure what to say. It's a really bad look.

This is actually fantastic news. After this thread, we should never again see one of you jumping in someone's thread lecturing ppl not to go to Baja.

I know of a dozen ppl who have been traveling there and would share their stories here if the Goat mob didn't attack them for it.

Glad to see that is not going to happen again and Doug's board can thrive again. Peace and fish tacos for all.

I travelled alone, for essential services. We practiced social distancing, wore masks, and kept to ourselves.

Same practices I follow in school each day since early September. I've never advocated people not travelling to Mexico, just advocate using common sense and following current safety guidelines. Nothing more, nothing less.

i traveled north week and a half ago...

tecate was a 2 hour wait at 10am

its a crap shoot

coming home was a breeze...4 cars total going south at 8am

the businesses just north of the border are DEAD...no shoppers at all
tough times for them

BajaBlanca - 11-22-2020 at 03:19 PM

2 qnd a half hours at Tecate? Jeez, that is awful. Do you think they were just working it slow or were there tons of folks going north? They were not going shopping according to what you say.

what part of getting dental work did you miss? or did you chose to ignore that fact because your looking to try and stir up crap? grow up !

WestyWanderer - 11-23-2020 at 08:10 AM

Getting dental work done is understandable, kinda. Having a nice night out for a lobster dinner doesn’t sound very “essential.”

Background, the guy has been attacking ppl for thinking about traveling to Baja for months.

I'm pretty sure he has good dental insurance that covers the dentist in his own community. He's some sort of teacher I believe. And an ex-CFO.

Regardless, essentially travel would have been a day trip. Not overnighting and hitting the town for c-cktails and lobsters. Notice he's also with someone(s) else.

Again, I think all of that is fine. But the op has acted all hollier than thee for many moons on here. And the Goat herd all jumped in to back him in their since deleted posts.

Hopefully, after this thread they just stop attacking ppl asking about travel to Baja on here, and the board can get back to normal.
