Jewel in gonzaga bay

del mar - 11-26-2020 at 04:27 PM

just reading an old interview with Jewel about her hitch hiking down to Cabo and giving tourists foot rubs on the beach to stay alive....and their trip to G-bay, here's a bit.

"You Were Meant for Me" was written on a drug bust in Mexico. We ended up in this place called Bahía de San Luis Gonzaga. Jewel said she wanted to go out on a boat and go whale-watching, but we didn't have a boat. We met these cops, and as if on cue, they asked if we wanted to go whale-watching. We were way out on the water and they got a call and said, "We don't have time to drop you off. We're trying to catch these drug smugglers, and there might be a shoot-out." They asked us if we wanted AK-47s, so we had guns, and they caught the guys. We helped them load the pot back onto the boat and they took us back to shore.

JEWEL: I was so convinced we were going to end up framed. I was really paranoid. We got this picture of Steve holding a kilo of marijuana and me holding an AR-15 with the federales. It was pretty funny. There were no shots fired, which was a relief.

a foot rub by Jewel? now thats bragging rights!

Interesting story. Jewel is an interesting person and a good entertainer. She lined up her large family who lives in Alaska with a good reality show gig called “Alaska, The last Frontier” that has had a good ten year run. In spite of living within walking distance of a grocery store near Homer, AK, they create the impression they have to hunt or fish continuously or starve. Reality entertainment at its best. Her father, who she grew up entertaining with in the local Alaskan bars is a hunter, entertainer, cowboy, writes songs, and shoots anything that crosses his path that remotely poses a threat or is needed for food to survive the winter. Their appeal to audiences is the free rugged frontier life they appear to live that is unknown in the city’s.

Thank you for the link to a really interesting story. I wonder if that movie, made at Gonzaga Bay years ago, has any connection? 'Tracing Cowboys' from around 2006 (even Coco is in it!). Ken Cooke had a connection, as I recall.

Here she is driving to Gonzaga in a motorhome, and more:

I remember the first time I heard "You Were Meant for Me", I was driving to Lake Berryessa and the first pay phone I could find I stopped and called the radio station to find out who she was. She has voice like no other and a pretty unique style.
