I have a load of house hold goods I am taking south. No appliances, or electronics. Anyone with experience that can clue me in on a few questions I
would really appreciate it. Planning on crossing south at San Ysidro / Chaparral.
Everything I have is used and would guess the total value at around $1000 dollars. How will Aduana value the goods?
Is the $300 per person in vehicle used to lower overall value?
Anything other advice will be heeded.
Than you in advance.

With you residence visa, I think you have a one-time free crossing with all of your goods you can carry?

^^^^^^^^
I read that but, there appears to be a lot of hoops to jump through including a trip to the consulate for application paperwork.
If I get the $300 per person exemption, I'll cover the $1000 value, or pay a small import fee is also fine. Thanks

For $1,000 of goods, just pay the import fee. It is 16% of the value of the goods after your personal deduction.
Even without a personal deduction that amounts to $160 .

So, $1000 minus $900 deduction for three persons in vehicle. 16% of the difference of $100 = $16 if they agree on the $1000 value.
If I understand correctly. I figured it would be pretty cheap. Thanks

One time household goods is tax free. You got to have all items listed and you have to declare the one time household goods at MX customs. That`s it.

20 years ago we spent 4 days getting through the border with our household goods. All of the consulate work was for nought, as the rules changed in
route. A holiday closure and a few other things contributed to our problems. We had 2 truck-trailers but had to use 1 Mexican truck to cross. All of
the paperwork had to be redone, and a power failure cost us time.
Good luck

The import duty increased to 19% last July. That's in effect at San Luis and both Mexicali crossings. Don't have personal experience at Tecate or TJ.
