Many cases now in La Bocana, I heard this morning. Everyone who gets sick stays home but who knows how many got infected in the days before that.

I know it was bound to happen but ughhhhhhhhhh

hopefully information like this will be a wakeup call for reckless travelers who feel mexico is their personal, consequence-free playground. please, stay the f home!

X 1000 and maybe Mexico should take a closer look at the free for all drive/fly thru/across the border. With 2 to 300,000 new cases a DAY in the US is simply disgusting.

Just because you are all off on your own on some deserted beach camping doesn't mean you teleported there and back. You have to have a bunch of contact going to and from.

JZ - 1-12-2021 at 09:46 PM

You can’t contain a virus like this. It was inevitable.

Close up until you can deal with it. Then open back up.

Life must go on. Take all the safety steps you can.

aburruss - 1-12-2021 at 09:52 PM

If I'm on a drive down Baja to get to said "deserted beach", how is that putting anyone at risk? If masks work, then let's all wear masks and not worry about things.

EVERY business has mask mandates in place. If I stop for fuel, I'm not putting anyone at risk as the attendant fills my tank. If I stop at a OXXO, I must wear a mask, and the people working there must wear a mask. If I stop at a restaurant (which is open for Mexican locals already), they are wearing masks, and I must as well.

On my last trip down to Baja Sur, I wore a mask any time I was out in public, around anyone. Even (and ESPECIALLY) when the locals were NOT wearing masks, and I had to be in close proximity to them.

Maybe its the locals, as much as the visitors, who are walking around without any care of masks? I had a flat tire and went to a tire shop. The main guy at the shop, his family and friends, and a few other locals were standing around, sans-masks. I wore mine the entire time. The spread and any risk had NOTHING to do with me. The tire shop will be open regardless of whether or not I go there.

I really don't see ANYONE who is treating Mexico as a personal consequence-free playground, any more than they are treating their hometowns as such.

I should be extremely careful, for the sake of others. Others should be extremely careful for the sake of me.

Very well said aburruss.

No reasonable person believes this virus isn't really serious.

We have to live with it, and be very cautious.

pacificobob - 1-13-2021 at 07:31 AM

don't kid yourself. not everyone camps on a deserted beach, and never comes
within 2 meters of another person not in their group. driving past the hotel California any afternoon and one can see loads of maskless tourists getting those important selfies.

DouglasP - 1-13-2021 at 07:39 AM

Probably so. I can only be responsible for myself.

gnukid - 1-13-2021 at 08:55 AM

People get colds and flu every year, this year there is no cold or flu, just covid?

shari - 1-13-2021 at 08:57 AM

Here in beautiful Bahia Asuncion we dodged the bullet for sooo long but the holidays proved to be fatal for a few.

People in town have followed protocol in the stores since the beginning, masked, hand washing and gel application.

But December is when people have quinceneras, baptisms and lots of family gatherings and parties. The outbreak here of 15 cases last week..at least...is thought to have been brought in by a sick antie from Ensenada who attended a baptism... so church service and big party after where several big families became infected. Most of the sick recovered now but some weren't so lucky. People infected had no contact with tourists at all.

It was inevitable and as I predicted spread rapidly throughout the families over Christmas & New Years. Now people are taking it more serious of course and staying home in their bubble.

Here at our Inn, we also follow protocol with temperatures taken, gel for hands, extra cleaning & disinfecting & most guests are masked & have either been tested or vaccinated and practice social distancing unless they are families or travel together.

There is no roadblock or even a health checkpoint here. People have been told to not travel between the fish camps as there are infections there. The restaurants are closed again and only open for take out or pick up but all the stores are open.

David, I believe you meant "accelerate".

NOT everyone is wearing masks (which are a preventative measure....not a guarantee....as there is no zero on any risk dial).

It is spreading because it's management is very difficult and a significant number of people do not do their best to follow suggested health protocols....and some still seriously minimize transmission risks.

We see justifications of this daily on BN.

Hope you and yours stay healthy.

Demographics seem to be a big factor. I suspect most of us on this forum live in small households where isolation is more easily achieved and if we still work it is not in service or manufacturing where on the job isolation is difficult and where workers carpool or use public transit to get to work. People in those categories also tend to live in larger households which are more vulnerable. Retail and supermarket workers are also more exposed and it appears that many of those infected are asymptomatic. There are no easy answers to the questions you pose but it certainly has become clear that the virus is exceedingly opportunistic. My county, San Luis Obispo, has until recently not been as hard hit as other areas but that has changed dramatically. To me it seemed inevitable, our beaches have been packed with out of the area folks and we are on a major highway connecting Northern and Southern Ca. Until recently most people at the gas pumps have not been masked.

Just my observations locally since I have not been out of this county for almost a year.

David K - 1-13-2021 at 02:17 PM

Because all it takes is a few people not adhering to precautions, (and it isn't true that everyone in So Cal is, there are plenty of videos of anti-maskers provoking confrontations in public places) to exponentially and quickly spread the virus. "Most" wearing masks and distancing isn't good enough. And if no one was taking precautions, everyone would be infected, which isn't the case. That shouldn't be so hard to understand.

David K - 1-13-2021 at 04:29 PM

There's more to it. People wearing masks are getting it (per reports here), so isolation is really the best bet, it would seem. The problem is that we don't live in a bubble and we don't have everything we need produced on our property, as it was on a farm.

Still, nobody in my extended family has gotten it, yet... We range in age from 6 months to 87 years.

David K - 1-13-2021 at 05:31 PM

Yes... naturally. People (plural) wearing masks not 50% of people in the same room... does no good if the non-wearers are infected.

Dozen years racing Baja

I cannot hear much, and my hearing aids are long past effective.

It is virtually impossible for me to understand speech through a mask, both because it is muffled and because I cannot see your lips.

Yeah, I wear a mask, where expected.... but don't expect me to respond to your questions or your conversation, cuz I have no clue what you are saying.

And, by the way, California excludes mask requirements for under 2, health issues of certain nature, and those with profound hearing loss.

Yes I wear a mask.... and yes, it is a pretty big deal, sad to say.....

I think we all understand there are reasonable exceptions for most rules. Especially for physical/health issues. I work a lot with special ed students. I know a bit about exceptional students. No one begrudges a person's need for allowances so they can reasonably function in society.

Now, an "emotional support" rattlesnake on an aircraft may be going too far. Even for a liberal.

I just think it's wonderful JZ and I agree on this. I know he's just a bit of a provocateur, and likely a good father/husband/friend.

If you are unclear on the proper wearing of a mask, you probably ought not to be allowed in public - you obviously don't have the mental aquity required to be out without your attendant!

The biggest difference in town is the silence. Normally these people party all night on Fridays and Saturdays. The music is piped in through loudspeakers that ends past 3am. There is none of that any more in Asuncion. My neighbor usually has 5-6 grandchildren running around round the clock with mothers dropping by to deliver or pick them. Now the two live alone in a silent home. People just don't visit one another any more.

However, the land is still the same. The ocean is calm and friendly. And the morning sunrises are as welcome as always.

There is also a volunteer, mobile "Boom Box" service to deliver music to those who do not live near a loudspeaker!

Sorry to hear about the outbreak, I wonder how for out vaccinations are for some of the smaller Baja communities?

Cancamo - 1-15-2021 at 11:18 AM

Public service announcements on radio, tv, and internet as well as painted walls and billboards in public places, are prevalent in Mexico. Municipal buildings have graphic posters showing the progressive benefits of mask wearing, (ie: no mask on two people, one mask two people..... both masked, then 1 meter distancing.....with percentages of becoming infected, from 95% to 0%.
Very descriptive and effective constant reminders keep attention focused on prevention, and in the end most people adapt and comply as a daily necessity, like putting on your hat when leaving the house.

I'm sure Joe has something planned in the form of public service announcements, surely could have helped if started 8 months ago.

Pfizer is being administered in Tijuana but it's out of the question here. The locals tell me that they're expecting to use China's vaccine with it's availability coming in April. When you think about it a cold storage facility could be set up in Guerrero Negro and all the surrounding villagers could drive to get vaccinated. Although that still wouldn't guarantee 100% inoculation because there are some without transportation. The China vaccine is supposed to be 70% effective so it's not the best. Realistically, I don't see Asuncion being vaccinated by April.

Perhaps gnukid has some solutions. Camomile tea? A bowel purge?:lol:

Did you advise your elderly mother to take the vaccine? Or did you tell her it was toxic fakery of fauci and George soros? (perhaps you need her to kick to give you part 2 of your trust fund.)

Or are you disassociated with your mama? Perhaps you left for Mexico to goof off on the beach, and your siblings are the only adults left that think of and care for your mother in the time of covid, eh?

No! Here's reality.

It takes weeks for the vaccine to kick in, for your body to create antibodies of sufficient amount to fight off an infection. You continue to wear a mask and maintain social distancing AFTER the jab. Anyone that died within 2 weeks of the jab did not die because the vaccine is ineffective. They died because they did not remain vigilant.

Coincidentally, they had received 1500 doses of the covid vaccine, and were inoculating some at risk veterans. I will be 74, next week, and they already have all my medical history, but a shot had not been prescribed by my VA doctor in Auburn, so no shot for me!

Silly to not get the flu shot. They are cheap or free, depending on your insurer,... and the flu is usually a miserable experience, as well as having a risk of complications or death (even for shorty mcjizzy).

It's unclear why factual reports, noting sources, cause emotional, childish reactions from curmudgeon bebote viejitos. Reminds me of seniors fighting about how low pressure at the four corners in the USA affects weather at Martine Verdugos Campground.

People are dying from severe reactions to the various forms of COVID "vaccine". This is not an opinion or personal matter, of a Baja Nomad, it's a statement of fact.

Severe allergic reactions reported in the US after getting COVID-19 vaccine, but CDC says cases are rare

99.98% survive COVID flu-like illnesses, fewer % survive the Vaccine product.

By what logic do you need an experimental product ingested that is extremely high risk with no long term testing on high risk demographics (READ SENIOR NOMADS), WHILE many experience severe reactions and many deaths have occurred.

Where is the logic to support the high cost and high risk for an experimental product to address an illness that poses such low risk.

Consider there are many many illnesses far more severe than COVID flu like illness, more so, flu like illnesses mutate yearly, meaning if you believe you need a vaccine for COVID, presumably you would need a vaccine for each strain of flu, all in all at least 10 flu like virus strains exist, and you would need multiple vaccines for each, every year.

Flu is understood to be a expression of toxicity, so why add toxicity to fight toxicity?

Louis Pasteur spoke to this very issue, noted his initial ideas were wrong, you don't kill toxicity, toxicity is a natural human expression to excrete garbage. Bechamp, furthered this idea. Unfortunately, Biopharma wants to profit by treating natural healthy processes with medicines.

Vaccines contain adjuvent toxins, metals like mercury and aluminum, synthesized biological c-cktails from other animals, aborted human fetus tissue, the Vaccine is intended to provoke an immune response, while no evidence of efficacy by manufacturers is required and they are immune from responsibility for adverse affects? Crazy!

You would be insane to believe that you should take multiple high risk vaccines, each year, for illnesses which have such low risk.

All the while, you are at risk of multiple other illnesses, Diabetes, Heart Disease, Cancer, that are negatively impacted by these very vaccines.

Some vaccines have proven efficacy, but not influenza vaccines, which likely cause more injury than reduce influenza impact.

It makes absolutely no sense to pursue injecting toxins to alter your biology with influenza vaccines, versus focusing on your personal health, through diet, exercise, fresh air and sunshine.

“The doctor of the future will give no medicine but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease.” Thomas Edison

In this particular case Douglas, I disagree with your assessment.

What I see here is gnuey posting a bunch of crystallicking unicorn fart completely debunked nonsence, which matters because -; The real virus is a real medical issue, and societal issue - we look to be headed for half a million deaths by March, and we still have clowns denying its a virus, posting bogus claims about vaccines, casting dispersions on the research.

We don't need anyone spouting their personal bull chit here - we need everyone pulling together to try and get a handle on this thing, to try and get the upper hand.

we really need to follow the science here, not crackpot proclamations by an ignorant individual who wants attention, and doesn't care at all that people are dying every day of covid, including patients in the hospital his wife works in, even as he denies it, (but gets his vaccine!)

Very well stated Lobsterman. I’m sure most understand our many “scientists” on the board have their own interpretation of the subject du jure. There has lately been a noticeable uptick, particularly by politicians, injecting the word “science” in their arguments attempting to add credibility to their blathering on everything from climate change to COVID.

When a 'theory' costs lives and spreads an infection then, yes, it should be pursued violently and debunked every time.

This pandemic didn't need to reach this proportions in the US. There was a time back in March when we could've put a lid on it and were expected to. But the 'theorists' as you call them said it's just a flu, go about your business. So now we have 400,000 and we still haven't learned our lessons. We still have proponents of 'theories' and the pandemic grows. So yes, I very much am against anyone who tries to convince people of their 'theories'. Not only are they harming us directly but they're spreading their lies and causing harm through their converts.

And yes the image clearly states 19 cases for the epidemic and 8 active cases that have occurred within the last 2 weeks.

Moderna and Pfizer both note their product is not a vaccine, it is gene therapy. Moderna says they were hoping for gene therapy for cancer treatment, but they pivoted to experiment with gene therapy to alter your RNA replication with synthesized gene product to reduce symptoms for RNA virus expression?

The gene therapy is injected into your deep muscle tissue, encased in nano particles, in the hope that it will enter your cells and forever change your RNA, supposedly in the hopes your symptoms from environmental stress will be different?

There is no autoimmune response in COVID19 "vaccines" like vaccines supposedly provoked in the past. Now, perfectly healthy people are experimenting with gene therapy in hopes that it might alter their symptoms in the future when experiencing flu like symptoms? But there has been no longterm testing on high risk demographics, and there are many severe adverse reactions.

Is anyone paying attention?

How about you begin Cancer Chemotherapy treatment even though you don't have cancer too?

Or remove your appendix even though you haven't yet experienced a problem?

The entire COVID story makes no sense, if you were sick and you have something resembling low number of antibodies (antigen) or something, then you have immunity, but if you have high number of antibodies you are sick and don't have immunity, either way you need a vaccine, which isn't a vaccine, but is gene splicing therapy to alter your RNA and genome permanently with an experimental product that has no long term testing and has never been done before, yet, youwill still need to wear a mask, isolate, distance, and use toxic cleaners, and the virus will mutate and you will need vaccines forever, for every strain of flu like symptoms, except that 99.9% survive and only those who were already close to dying, will die.

Never has a unique COVID Sars2 Virus been isolated, they simply said we found RNA in people complaining about flu like symptoms and it looks like this... photo, sometimes.

No evidence that COVID is a contagion, nor that masks protect against a microscopic expression, nor that it causes a disease or injury, all we know is that people experienced flu like symptoms when stressed in a toxic polluted environment and 99.9% survive, people who were dying, died.

Oh and common flu no longer exists?

Take a moment to pay attention to what you are being told, it doesn't add up.

Potential Applications include, space travel, terminal diseases, dealing with drought, food distribution etc.

I do however allow my training to guide me on the whole pandemic.

Google is your friend people, there is lots of good information out there - and bad info as well.
The questions are
1. are you willing to actually do a bit of on-line research?
2. are you capable of judging the veracity of the information - vetting the sources, etc.

It's not hard people, but you do need an inquisitive mind and a commitment to knowing the truth!

Gnuey posts gobs of "information here" all of it easily and quickly disproven. So i wonder why so many here rush to his defense. It's OK to post false info that potentially is damaging to ones health,..

But when someone points out his "info" is fake news, and provides reliable resources to prove Gnueys spouting are wrong -
well then many here feel the need to jump on the guy calling Bull Chit, try and personally attack them because ? why?

you can't counter their facts?

your only recourse is to result in personal attacks? because? why?

Do facts not matter to you?

You have a problem with the facts I post - please have at it - show me your science! I've been wrong lots of times, but I am more than willing to change my beliefs - as soon as you show me the science!

So far no one seems to be willing to do that here, instead they head for the old tired well you are a bad guy because you made my friend cry! Nice!

I personally don't like the idea of taking an injection that will alter my RNA, my DNA or any other of my built in systemic parts.
However, I also don't like the idea of getting this crappy plague.
Right now I have 9 employees (out of a total of 49) home with a positive.... and it all started with an off campus party.... sigh.
I also have a very close fiend in ICU and Pete ain't gonna make it.
So I will take the shot, and hope that a few years down the road it did not have some of those nasty "unintended consequences" that so often crop up.

Trump, well, that's a different matter.

Hated the way he did it.

Don't care if he gets it, he will be fine and have immunity. Ppl have to live. Getting it and only being around college age kids is one of the safer ways to do it.

Be aware of the basic points about the radical experimental untested gene therapy products being pushed out to populations ... here are a few articles that discuss the Moderna and Pfizer gene therapy to splice synthetic mRNA to produce proteins that do not stop COVID infections but instead feed the viral infection with more proteins. Find out what the injection is and what it does? It doesn't stop infection of covid. It feeds the infection with increased proteins that may have a positive or adverse affect. Do your own research.

It doesn't alter genetic material. This is a common anti-vaxxer argument that is false.

From Harvard Medical School: An mRNA vaccine — the first COVID-19 vaccine to be granted emergency use authorization (EUA) by the FDA — cannot change your DNA.

it's synthetic messenger RNA not DNA, mRNA replicates thousands of times a second, often with variations. Introducing synthetic mRNA successfully causing it to replicate will alter how your body works and may affect your DNA over time.

It's quite intentionally misleading to change the substance of the topic of such importance, then argue against that, also known as fallacy of the straw man.

It seems you are intent on promotion of misleading info to discourage people from informed consent?

Why not just read the info provided by the manufacturers about their gene therapy using synthetic mRNA and become informed instead of muddying the waters with nonsense?

It is not required to be indoctrinated with a PHD to have informed consent of your health?

Every person can learn about biology, the history behind germ theory versus cell theory or human terrain theory. No one is restricted from learning about their bodies, and finding what works for them. It's fine to have different opinions too.

If you believe you need every medicine and vaccine and you are certain you are informed, for example, you want yearly influenza vaccines and multiple yearly corona vaccines go for it.

Your health is personal, you manage your personal health.

Nope. Poor attempt at gaslighting.

This is how the CDC explains how Covid vaccines work which aligns with Harvard Medical:

mRNA vaccines have strands of genetic material called mRNA inside a special coating. That coating protects the mRNA from enzymes in the body that would otherwise break it down. It also helps the mRNA enter the dendritic cells and macrophages in the lymph node near the vaccination site.

mRNA can most easily be described as instructions for the cell on how to make a piece of the “spike protein” that is unique to SARS-CoV-2. Since only part of the protein is made, it does not do any harm to the person vaccinated but it is antigenic.

After the piece of the spike protein is made, the cell breaks down the mRNA strand and disposes of them using enzymes in the cell. It is important to note that the mRNA strand never enters the cell’s nucleus or affects genetic material. This information helps counter misinformation about how mRNA vaccines alter or modify someone’s genetic makeup.

Once displayed on the cell surface, the protein or antigen causes the immune system to begin producing antibodies and activating T-cells to fight off what it thinks is an infection. These antibodies are specific to the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which means the immune system is primed to protect against future infection.

Each person can read the literature and make up their own mind, its great that CAJ and Jaime are certain and confident in taking an experimental, new, non-peer reviewed, untested gene therapy, never ever even tried before, even with so many sever adverse reactions, paralysis and deaths, that takes some confidence, even when Moderna Pfizer, Fauci and Gates say many will die from adverse affects.

Thank you for your lucid explanation of how mRNA vaccination works. It's important to debunk every lie being posted here about this vaccine and the pandemic in general. Just in the last day a comment stated that RNA was introduced permanently into your body, affecting you for the rest of your days. That lie was picked up and believed by another member who took it as the truth. Mission accomplished by the liar.

I thought the video on conspiracy theories was just excellent and will recommend it to my friends. I have always thought these people were just 'not normal' but it turns out that it is very normal.

Context is as important as facts and quantity. IMHO.

Vast majority of Obama pardons -212 - and commutations - 1,715 were for drug offenses with mandatory sentences during the failed 'war on drugs' and were all vetted by standard procedure thru the Justice Department. Not sure how many, if any, had a personal or political connection to the president like at least 84 of the 90 (so far) had with what will surely go down as the worst president of this or any lifetime.

Context does matter.

The issue is not solely that your body IS going to change in unexpected ways by injecting synthetic mRNA to join with your mRNA in hopes of it multiplying infinitely forever.

The issue is that the mRNA vaccine product is intended to cause you to produce high quantity of (presumably) similar COVID viral proteins, the type that supposedly cause the virus infection, except that the biopharma marketers hope the mass produced proteins will be weaker, and your body will be more able to fight them.

The theory is that by becoming a factory, producing high quantity of these proteins, you will be better able to handle the infection and symptoms?

But what if producing large quantities of similar covid proteins produces an uncontrolled response?

Or the nanoparticles covering and masquerading the synthetic RNA cause a severe adverse rejection response?

And, if the vaccine can cause you to produce COVID proteins, weren't you already able to produce COVID proteins? Meaning, is it possible that YOUR BODY produces corona type proteins as part of cellular cleaning, and it is not an external contagion? Just as Antoine Bechamp argued and Louis Pastor agreed a long time ago?

Have you you read about exosomes, they act and appear just like what biopharma calls viruses?

Perhaps we are not at risk from external bacterias and virus infection, as much as we at risk from poor health, and toxic lifestyle? You don't kill virus, you create and excrete virus, nor do you want to promote increase of protein virus production, you heal yourself to reduce the need for virus excrements to clean cells.

Like telling an alcoholic to just drink more tequila to solve alcoholism, while instead you should be healthy and drink less.

Lobsterman - 1-20-2021 at 08:15 AM

My wife and daughter just received the 1st covid shot this week. Both work at a retirement home. Both had a minor reaction to the shot. Extreme pain in the arm that it was administered. Wife had to cancel her golf lesson scheduled for the next day. Today, it still hurts but we have a 2pm tee time. We'll see if she can make it.

As for me, I just turned 74 a couple of days ago. I have never had a flu shot, take no medicines at all, not even vitamins and rarely get a cold, perhaps a couple in the last ten years. The last cold (3-days long) was back in February after returning from the SF Bay area after a 2 month assignment. That was the last time I worked cuz our industry was shutdown. This have devastated my fellow workers financially and mentally with many marital problems. It's not easy to find a job in field engineering and installation in today's environment. Fortunately for me I retired 10 years ago and only work for the adventure of free travel.

Today I'm very active with daily long walks in the countryside away from people. I also golf, fish or work on my boat in a marina in San Diego Bay multiple times a week. No CV scares 10 miles offshore, just big beautiful red rockcod for dinner. The whales are on their journey down to see Shari with many sightings on the way to the 9-Mile Bank. PEACEFUL out there away from all the present manmade turmoil and theories. Fishing by myself I feel like "The old man and the sea".

I do not plan on taking the CV shot. AND heaven forbid if I tried to explain why to this rabid group of "know it alls".

would you please list your science degrees and the universities from which they were awarded...and year earned if not too much trouble. can i assume you're employed in research?

It is not required to be indoctrinated with a PHD to have informed consent of your health?

Every person can learn about biology, the history behind germ theory versus cell theory or human terrain theory. No one is restricted from learning about their bodies, and finding what works for them. It's fine to have different opinions too.

If you believe you need every medicine and vaccine and you are certain you are informed, for example, you want yearly influenza vaccines and multiple yearly corona vaccines go for it.

Your health is personal, you manage your personal health.

ya, i was fairly sure you would choose not to share your curriculum vitae.
modesty forbids boasting of your science knowledge....right?
no worries, you're my hero for fearlessly charging the windmills of rational thought.

My stepmother and two of her sons were admitted to 3 separate hospitals in San Diego between the 9th and 11th of this month with COVID. Monday the 18th one of the boys died. He never had a chance to get vaccinated. Greatest country in the world with the best health care my ass. 400,000 dead.

Great leadership.

I will get the shot when it is my turn!

I got a shingles booster shot last month, and my shoulder was sore for a week. I got the first shot ten years ago because I had chickenpox as a kid. The virus can lie dormant for years, then flare up as shingles fifty years later!

Who know what the long term effects of Covid 19 are? I sure don't want any surprises when I am a hundred and twenty four! :O

What part of numerous trials with large numbers of participants, with those results reviewed by an independent panel of experts is non peer reviewed? do you even know what peer reviewed means? or are you just continuing to parrot crap from your magic facebook sources of information?

as for deaths effects etc. try doing a bit of research, and posting up those numbers - AND the sources of those numbers. and if you struggle with math, we can all do it together here - apparently in looking ay some of your previous posts, you seem to struggle with the complex mathematical concept of percent!

Go for the shingrix version , there was a previous version less effective and with more side effects, (mild) I think everyone is now doing Shingrix.
it is a 2 shot regiment, about 2 - 6 month apart, anyone over 50 should get it in my opinion. If you know anyone who has had shingles, you will understand why

That sounds like what I am getting through the VA. I have an appointment for a second shot in mid March.

The first shot caused a reaction like someone had smacked my arm with a billy club!

I've been dealing with shingles for 20 years now. It activates during an allergy episode which fortunately in Baja is fairly rare. I am so looking forward to that vaccine. I hope it works for me because it's not 100% effective. Thank God for Acyclovir. I can't imagine life without it.

I had shingles about 4 years ago. Went to an acupuncturist and in one treatment, had immediate relief and the pain has not returned! Best $120 I ever spent!

The mRNA is not coded to produce the entire protein but the fragment that codes for the cell receptor that the virus attacks. The antibodies that are generated by the person getting the vaccine are specifically made to recognize that part of the virus and attack it. So you are not creating a dangerous condition for the person.

Pathogens are successful because they 'outrun' their victim. Yes, most people have the genes to beat the infection but it's a race and the virus has a head start. It takes time for the body to build up its immunity and the virus uses it to multiply. That's why pathogens introduced to native tribes were so devastating but no longer are. Covid is a pathogen of that class. It's for this reason that comparing a covid vaccine to a flu vaccine is wrong and it's not a matter of 'eating right and exercising'.

caj13 - 1-21-2021 at 08:51 AM

Hey Gnuey,
Its all about Blocking the "docking stations", so the virus cannot attach and infect the cells. Sorry you have not had the education required to understand this simple concept.

Essentially mRNA vaccines produce the specifically shaped proteins that bind to and "lock up" the access points the virus uses to infect the cells.

Not hard to understand. and you don't have to rely on long ago proven false ideas generated 200 years ago , when drs thought disease was caused by vapors in the air and imbalances of the 4 humors. Your "medical" knowledge is 200 YEARS OUT OF DATE!

I have some spare 8th grade science books that explain the entire process. Perhaps I can send one to gnukid?
