The Tetakawi mountain can be seen from 30+ miles away when you are on the Sea of Cortez.

Thanks for the photos of Sonora's beautiful harbor.
Guaymas was the site of a Jesuit mission, soley constructed to support the (Baja) California missions!

That rugged hill always reminds of of the movie 'Catch 22' filmed just north of Guaymas/ San Carlos.

WoW! Beautiful postcards! Well done.

Incredible shots!

Amazing shots!! Many thanks. I camped and snorkeled at San Carlos Bay for a week with friends in about 1954 or 55 when there was NOTHING man-made there other than a small rancho a short distance from the bay. Have not been there since. Lots of changes, for sure. LOL

I've had more fun times on Catch 22 beach than should be legal.

Didn't know about the mission.

Catch 22

Slightly off topic, but that is one of my favorite books. I read it for the first time before I was drafted into the army in 1967. It was a good read then, but was even better the second time around after I served in Korea all of 1969!

From Wiki (amusing they thought Loreto was inland from Guaymas) and didn't understand the area* was Baja California!

Juan María de Salvatierra and Eusebio Kino asked for permission to evangelize the area*, which was received in 1697.

Salvatierra came to this area and established the Loreto mission somewhat inland from where Guaymas is now.

To receive supplies by ship and evangelize the Guaymas Indians, the Jesuits founded another small mission on the bay, which they called San José de Guaymas. It was headed by Manuel Diaz.

The Seri repeatedly attacked the San José mission, forcing it to be abandoned and rebuilt several times. The last time this mission was abandoned was in 1759.

That Catch 22 paved runway (made only for the movie and was never an open airport) was visible for many years after the film. New developments finally obliterated much of it...

Snorkeling there for pink or white Murex Sea Shells was what I remember best.
Swimming after the Conch trails in the bottom sand was good for a tasty treat too

Think I've seen it twice in the 15 years I've been going there.
