seems like with american english there are several terms in common use.
i usually use canopy. but often hear other terms.

Not sure people are going to understand canopy.
More like a portable garage or cover for a truck.

Canopy is the term commonly used in Canada....and people understand what is meant by the word.
Some folks might think it refers to those little snacks at a party....canape
I suppose it depends on your location, language, and cultural context.

'Camper Shell' in California.... 'Cap' in the south, I think? If you are talking about what goes onto a pickup truck bed to enclose it, usually has
windows and a door.
