Best shower stopover in Mulege / Guerro Negro / Ensenada

matthew_mangus - 1-30-2021 at 06:23 PM

What's the best spot (presumably an RV park) to stop for a hot shower in the towns of Mulege, Guerro Negro, and Ensenada?

I'll be leading a small group of folks camping, fishing and exploring off-road routes in Feb and we'd like to add an occasional hot shower to the agenda.

Our vibe looks like this: Baja 20 video

Thanks in advance.
Matthew

The only shower near Mulege (other than hotels) that I have used was at Playa Santispac. If you have a large group, it may take a while to cycle through, but at least you are in a restaurant and bar!

I am sure there are other places, but that is the only one I know, and that info is about four years old.

I tried them, but even though I ate there, and paid for camping, the showers were not available! Mark and Olivia were not there, just their son and a cranky Gringo who seemed to be working there, but I am not sure about that.

Don Chanos in Mulege is a great spot. Has wifi and showers with nice camp sites. It is located on the river and it is a short walk to town. I attached a google maps link.

Stopped their twice in the last couple years.

Both times the worst experience I've had service wise in Baja. Stay away.

What kind of service were you expecting? Many of us have enjoyed the mercurial status of this legendary spot and location.

Your Yelp report, however, is duly noted.

So weird that some of you got that kind of treatment and other times it is the friendliest place in Baja? I have been lucky every time I have stopped there (2007-2019).

Mark and Olivia are welcoming everyone in this clip of our Trail of Missions Recon in May 2019 at Minute 3:44. The Buenaventura footage begins at Minute 2:45 to 4:39 of this 10 minute Episode (#5).

If you take a dish washing soap like joy with you it lathers up real good for a bath in salt water. The back side of Malarrimo's in Guerrero Negro is an RV/camp area with showers. The last time I used it they charged $12 per person.

Dr, Bronners soap also lathers in salt water....nicer to the skin than dish detergent. The label also serves as good reading while on the throne.

Things change. They seems to leave the place often. The ppl they leave in charge have no sense and don't care.

If you happen to stop in when they are gone, brace yourself. This is the only place in Baja I've ever given a big thumbs down to.

Why would you take a shower at a run down RV park public shower?
Get a solar bag, take a shower at your remote campsite.

Buenaventura place is gross, cooks and bartenders sometimes not wearing shirts, which indicates overall hygiene is probably not up to minimum restaurant standards. If personnel hygiene is wrong, do they even bother to run their food refrigeration correctly? Do they bother to keep their kitchen clean? Appearances count, they indicate what goes on in non-visible parts of the operation.

Hotel Sal, El Sal? in Guerrero Negro has large showers with unlimited hot water to suit anyone looking for some water therapy after a day on the road.

I tend to be as conservative as possible when using such a valuable resource, but not running out of hot water while restoring our bodies while on the road is a treasure.

We all can recall instances when this was less than ideal while paying for a comfortable nights lodging.

The Cactus in El Rosario is another one with great showers, or it was for years. El Rosarios water supply has been under stress the last few years.

In that particular case, please respect the locals and take a short one, wherever you may be.

There is daylight on the horizon for some sense of normality to return, but fixing the covid transmission is required, and we are moving in that direction with the roll-out of vaccines.

In the meantime, stay as safe as possible in whatever way works for you.

That sure leaves some room to accommodate just about everyone's point of view on traveling. Personal responsibility is up to each one of us Baja lovers.

I have taken to grooming myself like a cat does. My dog takes care of the spots that I can't reach myself! :barf:

Thanks for the input all. I took some good notes and had a few chuckles.
