Rice and Beans in San Ignacio

Warf - 2-7-2021 at 11:28 AM

We stayed at Rice and Beans many years ago and (because we were young) the uncomfortable beds and cold showers didn't really matter. Now however...those things do matter. So, how are the beds there now? Comfortable? Has the restaurant changed any? How about the food and the margaritas? If you've been there recently, we'd appreciate knowing what the place is like now. Gracias!

Stayed there a coupe of years ago and its still exactly like you described it. It's was the go to place before La Huerta was built. Not dissing Rice and Beans but La Huerta is much nicer. Their website seems to be down but I am sure you can search for more information. Just past the mission on the right side. Short walk to the square and mission.

La Huerta for the win!

2017: New restaurant open:

Last stayed there in 2019... just as good as before!

I agree that La Huerta is a good place...they just don't have a couple of rooms available for the dates we need. So...still looking. Anybody else with current information about Rice & Beans. Or how about Baja Oasis on the main road a bit south/east of town. Anybody?

BajaRun - 2-7-2021 at 01:56 PM

It's the same. I still always stay at Rice and Beans. I like Ricardo. He's helped many people in need and I continue to support his place. I wish he would upgrade the rooms. I like the restaurant the way it is.

Bajarun: Thanks for the info. And thanks to all of you who replied. Appreciate your help.

Just took this photo, no bad reports I have seen.
***I do know after our last time at Ricardo's motel (La Huerta was full), we won't stay there again... emergency only!*** Yes, we like Ricardo and his restaurant and mango margaritas... nothing personal.

We still stay at R&B. stayed there mid December, the beds are a little hard, shower has always been hot, always been clean. Restaurant is good, margaritas are great. Also have known Ricardo a long time, and especially now want to support him.

Stayed ar R&B in March last year. hard beds, shower barely came out the showerhead and never got beyond lukewarm after running it for 15 minutes. i'm not a margarita drinker, but i found the restaurant barely passable. food was OK, pricey for what it was. I'll avoid the place moving forward!

One bad experience many years ago, and bad reviews, have put me off rice and beans, especially since la Huerta is reliably clean, quiet, well maintained.
La Huerta has been good for me. Desert Inn is nice too.
The yurts and R&B are also just too far from the plaza. Part of the attraction of San Ignacio is staying within walking distance of the plaza, enjoying the plaza and old part of town.

Anybody know if they allow dogs in the rooms? My girl is a big part of the reason I spend so many nights sleeping in my car.

advrider - 2-7-2021 at 09:32 PM

Stayed at R&B several time, no frills but gets the job done. We are a bunch of motos guys and find that anything beats sleep in your cloths on the trail so we aren't to hard to impress! Also stayed at the yurts just down the road but haven't been there since it was sold. If I was taking my wife I would check out the B&B first.

KasloKid - 2-7-2021 at 09:57 PM

While San Ignacio with buddies and our bikes, we stay at R&B...dirt bikes go in the room with us. We're considerate types, and scrounge newspaper or cardboard to place under recently lubed chains.

While there with my wife, it's La Huerta.

Stayed at Rice and Beans this past November. The food was good but the beds were the hardest I've ever tried to sleep on. I think the concrete floor would have been softer.

My two centavos from a seasoned traveler all over Baja.

Rice and Beans is an OK place to stay, if for nothing else but to get their stickers. You still get a free beer upon checking in.

The food was OK, and the rooms were OK also. However, for the price of $35.00 (when we stayed there last August 2020). The beds were fairly hard. At first we did not have any water, then no hot water! Then the power went out for about an hour (no power, no A/C). My opinion is that for next time we will stay at either the yurts or the hotel in town (their food was just OK also). Or La Huerta.

David K - 2-9-2021 at 12:25 PM

In 2015, it was $65 for the dirty room with hard beds... LA Huerta was $40 but no vacancy. The $35 price would have been more in line in 2015. I would try La Posada next time as I stayed there in 1985 and loved it!

satmike - 2-13-2021 at 08:46 PM

Have stayed there many times, never had a problem with hot water, seem to usually get the same room by chance. always clean, about $35, bed is a little hard. always there in the winter so ac no problem. I'm a dirt biker and I like it there

Doug Landolfi - 2-14-2021 at 08:34 AM

The resort with the yurts on the lagoon in San Ignacio was very nice back in November - clean, comfortable beds, nice bathroom, lots of hot water. I will definitely stay there again.

David K - 2-14-2021 at 09:03 AM

This can be confusing... there is a Laguna San Ignacio (salt water lagoon, with gray whales in season) and there are cabins, maybe yurts there, too?

In the town of San Ignacio, along Highway 1 is the freshwater river and lake. Alongside it is Ignacio Springs Bed & Breakfast, featuring deluxe yurts. www.ignaciosprings.com

We stayed there, once.

Doug Landolfi - 2-14-2021 at 10:47 AM

Thank you for that helpful clarification. Yes, I was referring to the in-town fresh water lagoon.
