Coco is Moving his Corner, needs help (2-14-21 video)

Coco says he is moving 6 kms. north.
His place is currently 7 kms. south from the highway from Km. 179.

He needs all the help he can get, watch the video...

I just added a second link to the creator's page. The first link was in the South Campos Amigos page (a closed group). Try clicking on the second link.

I did reply to the creator to put the video on YouTube or Vimeo should non-Facebook people not be able to see it.

Thanks for posting the second link, I was able to view it! Does anyone reading this post plan to take part in the move?

I was also curious what Coco did for a living before he retired to his campo in the desert. Anyone here have the answer?

Coco worked for Dave & Juanita at Cielito Lindo before he moved and homesteaded his 'corner' in the early 1990s. I think he worked at a hotel in Ensenada also?

Las Arrastras is a great place, along the highway, has an excellent well of fresh water, and lots of flat-open land to build upon or offer as camping areas. Coco thinks it is haunted... So, either he got over that or he is indeed 1 km. south and found a way to get over by the highway from the old road???

We knew Coco in the late 70s (1976/1977) in Ensenada where seemed to run a campground in town, about a mile south of the Malecon. The campground is still there with what appears to be a few permanent folks living there.

I first came across Coco's Corner in 2013 on my first trip down Mx 5. I was traveling with just a AAA map, and asking questions about the road ahead from who ever I had contact with. It was a recommended stop from some folks I met at Cow Patty's.

His English seemed better back then, and he helped me with my Spanish. It was my impression that he had worked north of the border for a while, but I don't recall if he actually told me that, or if it was just and assumption.

I have also been told that he worked in the club scene on the TJ side of the border, but again, it was possibly second hand information.

He told me recently that when he was young, he worked as a commercial diver, but that was a long time ago!

I believe he told me he got permission from the ejido to move there.

Not to derail the thread, but your comment sent me looking through photos from 2013, as I was thinking that's about when I first met him.

Didn't find any Coco pics from then, but found this one from Brazil. I think Coco would appreciate it.

I don't remember when I first met Coco. The place where he is now I think there was an American living there when I was first there or it may have been someone watching Cocos stuff. That was a long time ago.

Nobody can own land in an Ejido. Only the original members and family own in the collective called Ejido xxx. He can get permission to settle where he wants form the local Ejido. Don't know which Ejido where he is located. Gringos must pay to locate an live in any Ejido, but they never get ownership.

Paul in Wonderhussy part 3 she shows the red truck cab at Coco's with an Ejido name.

Ejido Hermenegildo Gallana. Some of the letters were a little hard to read because of scratches etc.

I tried and failed to come up with the list of Ejido's in Baja.
The closest one to Coco would be Matomi. No boundaries or maps found.

Seems like Coco location is called ejido Hermenegildo Galeana

Stumbled on to Coco's Corner in '91. Stopped and drank a couple of beers with him. We were on a rock hounding expedition so he directed us to an abandoned gold mine and a spring that was flowing effervescent water. Coco told us if we drank it it would give us mas cajones. We found the mine and the spring. It tasted like alka selzster. Didn't find anything interesting at the mine but the Calamajue road was really fun and my truck earned a nice collection of Baja pinstripes.

Any update on this topic?

Has anyone reading this been by there since the move? I am sure that Coco would have a new sign up somewhere, so it should be easy to find.

Indeed he does. Yesterday, Baja Nomad 'Mothership' emailed me three photos of the new Coco's Corner access road. He said it was about 1 mile south of the Las Arrastras bridge (the one you can see the Las Arrastras mill ruins from, Km. 180). He did not see the new location, said it was over a rise from the highway... if it was indeed moved...?

David, did he stop by there? I could be wrong, but that looks like the old signs directing north bound traffic to his old camp.

He just stopped to take those three photos... so I also questioned him about it simply being a new north access that joins the old road to his old location. I think Coco wants to be visible from the highway and close to it, for business.

Edit... it was odd that he recorded Km. 179 for the turnoff but said it was definitely south of Las Arrastras instead of just north. Makes me wonder if they moved the km. posts again??? Either that or he was confused, since Km. 179 and 179.5 were the old road/ Coco's access roads, north of the bridge.??
