Coco's New Corner... HELP NEEDED!

David K - 3-24-2021 at 01:07 PM

This was posted an hour ago on Ride Baja:

Dear All - I should have posted this sooner... it’s about Coco / Coco Corner... he needs help!

The move is going VERY SLOWLY. These photos were a week ago Monday... all smiles... but fact is Coco is living in half the space he had before... must stay put so he doesn’t get robbed while the new place is being built. Says he feels like a prisoner. His good friend, Nacho, was working on it while we were there, but he was all alone except for his wife who waited in the truck while he installed a roof panel (old used plywood).

Very slow going. Coco will also need some concrete poured... right now there is no proper foundation for his new place, just some post holes filled with concrete, and it is very difficult for him to wheel himself around in the dirt... so he needs an exterior slab, too. Would be great if we could somehow organize a construction crew to go down and get it done for him. Seemed that was the plan when I visited him back in December, but it never materialized.

Please... if you have ideas and/or resources... COME FORWARD... we can do better to support this Baja icon!

I know there are posters who regularly visit Coco but don't know who you/they are .. Can someone please id yourself, and let us know if you are headed that way and will accept a donation?
Thank you, Lori

Does Coco have any online place where we can donate money?

Coco"s construction

Contact For work being done for Coco is headed up by
Larry Smith bajlarry@gmail.com

Tomorrow there will be bunch of people there bringing stuff.

Don't know if he needs money.

Larry’s latest message I edited
If you want to donate items, please see the following list. Let Larry know if you are going to donate something
*Plywood and 2x4's for building his new place. However, much you want to donate.
*Beer. Take a case and drink a few there and leave him the rest to sell.
*crutches. He wants to shorten a set to help him get around.
*Cat or dog crate. He has a feral cat(s) that he wants to move to the new location. This could be a loaner for a few weeks.
*Any other building materials like windows, doors, tin roofing, the leftover elastomeric roofing from your last project. Etc.
*He just had a food run to San Felipe so he should be good there.

Thanks, Paul!

We passed by there NB this afternoon. Basic building is complete and no one there! I have some stuff I could donate at our South Campo house.

I'm planning a quick baja trip. May depart as soon as next week. I don't have much in the way of construction material on hand but I'll see what I can scrounge up. At the very least I can contribute a case of Tecate.

If anyone wants to send a donation let me know. I'll be heading south down I5 and crossing over in Tijuana. Maybe I can pick stuff up along the way?

Where would we find him? Old place or new place? I have no idea where the new place is.

He is at the old place until the new is ready to move in, since thieves can take his few possessions if he is not there.
The new place is where the older road forked away from the highway at Km. 179.5, a place known as Las Arrastras.

On my map, see Las Arrastras (by K-179) and the original Coco's Corner:

Just drove by Coco's new place yesterday. Nobody around.

The building is very visible from Mex 5 when heading north. It is located directly above the old mill ruins at Las Arrastras and is maybe 200 yards off of the highway.

The only problem is that it is a totally non-descript plywood shack that looks like every other semi-abandoned shack along Mex 1 and Mex 5.

You simply whiz by it at 65+ mph without giving it a second thought!

I think that one of DK's 'stock photos' shows the building site. The photo shows the circular mill ruin in the bottom of the arroyo and an old stone tower on the bank of the arroyo directly above the circular milling site. Coco's building is very near to the stone tower.

Photo #1 Whatever the structure is in this photo, it is now gone. The stone tower is still there.

Coco's building would be behind this structure at the edge of the level area and just in front of the brush line.

Photo #2 Coco's building would be just to left of DK's truck.

Thanks RnR, as I suspected, Coco's Corner is moving to Las Arrastras de Arriola. Now, Las Arrastras de Coco!

Dk,
You got your vaccinations? You retired with nothing to do? Get on down there and help build coco’s panty palace!

David K - 3-31-2021 at 08:26 PM

Yes, No, No
You go right ahead... of course at some risk of being photographed or helping others!

BajaBlanca - 4-2-2021 at 07:33 AM

This is one big project and vital for Coco to survive. I presume he had solar at his old place which needs to be relocated too?
