Andy of Commitment.org is helping the mountain villages:

David K - 3-29-2021 at 07:51 AM

From helping a little girl in El Rosario get life-saving heart surgery, to bringing food to remote villages in the Sierra de San Francisco, and has been helping Antonio (BajaCactus) get fire and rescue equipment, Andy Schouten has been working non-stop!

Covid-19 government shut downs of the painted cave tours has devastated the lives of the mountain villagers. Recently, San Francisco de la Sierra got government assistance but Santa Martha not so.

You bet, Paul... and an fyi, Coco is moving his corner to the highway... new building is going up. It is where the old road and new road split at Las Arrastras, Km. 179.5.

So it's going to be "Coco's Y"? Junction?

A few days ago, I ran into my friend and guide, Chico, from Sierra de San Francisco at a hardware store in Vizcaino. He said all is well in the village except they have not had any rain for awhile. He is looking forward to taking us down to the caves again real soon.

I am Andy Schouten of Commitment, Inc. First of all I want to thank David Kier for his efforts to bring help to the Sierra de San Francisco. The mountain range is currently in serious drought conditions, which when added to Covid and rock art sites being closed, makes survival difficult. We have been helping since July, 2019. We have already sent about $ 5,000 to help the families, including $ 1,000 just a few days ago. The need will continue for some time to come. There are about 300 people living in the entire range. We are being helped by Trudi Angell of Saddling South and now also Jane Ames of Casa Leree in San Ignacio and the support of quite a few individuals who have donated. Commitment has fairly been quiet on Baja Nomad, but is still very active. With the assistance of Antonio Munoz and the Desert Hawks of El Rosario, we have made substantial donations of fire & rescue equipment and supplies to many other fire/rescue groups throughout Baja California. This includes, Jaws of Life, backboards, cervical collars, turnouts, helmets, gloves, SCBA equipment just to name some of the major items. San Quintin will be the new municipality to handle all of the state of Baja California south of Colonet to the border of BCS. We are already working with the new government to help get supplies to them. We currently have almost 2 trailers loads of gear that we want to send down. A couple of years ago, we helped Ensenada get two used fire engines and an ambulance. We are waiting for final approval to get another fire engine donated. The need in Baja California is great. Whether or not it is to our organization or any other, we ask all of you to
help in whatever way you can.
Thank you

I spoke to Chico last night and he said all archeology sites are open now. Great news!
