English High School Recommendation

davet2017 - 5-9-2021 at 05:06 AM

We're considering a move to Los Cabos and want to know what the best options would be for grade 9. Looking for a private school that teaches much of the cirriculum in English. Any suggestions?

As a retired educator, if you're moving to Mexico, put your child in a Spanish speaking school, Children have a huge capacity for language acquisition. He/she will become fluent much quicker than you!! I am sure they will offer a class for Spanish language learners. Good luck and I hope it goes well for all of you.

We're moving to Bahia Asuncion full time in a few months. Our kids are going to attend the local schools. We've learned this past year that we can always supplement via the Internet or good ol' mom and dad. Congrats on the move!

Delmar School in CSL is 50/50 English and Spanish.

This is a good link for an overview of the schools:

Respectfully, you may be a retired educator, but I disagree with your advice. For a younger child, sure, they will pick up the language quickly, but for a 14 year old, I think it would not be a good experience to be put into a school where they don't understand the language. They will learn it eventually, but that isn't a great age for a total immersion situation.

For one thing, the social aspect of school is huge for a 14 year old, so not being able to communicate easily and make friends would be rough. And they aren't studying Dick and Jane, they need to keep up with their studies.

An English language school, with a basic Spanish class or a private Spanish tutor would be the way I would start out with a teenager. Coupled with making some Mexican or bilingual friends, in a year or two, they will probably be fluent enough to attend a total Spanish-speaking school if they choose to.
