Baja Bus Stop Wedding

As we were heading north last week from Mulege we came upon a most unusual site. As we approached the very small town far from GN a large group of a least 35 people had gathered a the top of a crest in the road. The town being small and without a gas station or visible business I wondered what was up. As we neared and I looked closer I realized that the group was gathered at the bus stop along Hwy 1.
All were dressed in their finest attire and were standing in loose order. A preist was giving a couple their vows and flowers and gifts were apparent.
I am just in awe at these wonderful people. Their presence and their oblivious
nature in relation to the road gave me a new view of life in Baja. One that means more than just a mention. A simple ceremony that struck a complicated nerve.
What Iam talking about is the way so many of us are stuck with our routines. Where in America would see something as this. We are ingrained in our own ideas of what makes a marriage ceremony. I think .........do they have a Sterling pattern picked out? Are they registered at Macys' dept store for the bride? I hardly think so. How lucky they are. How fortunate to just be married and get on with life. How cool it is, that their material world does not take center stage. How privledged I am, to be able to see this. Words really can't express it.
