One thing to consider is which manufacturer has a retail outlet closest to where the boat is going to be used. I needed a new fuel pump for my 20 hp
Suzuki 4-stroke in Mulege and took it to a Suzuki dealer in Cd. Constitucion that quickly got the part and installed it. Easy.
Another brand and I might have had to drive to La Paz or trust a Mulege mechanic, who are largely 2-stroke guys.
Also, I think small Mercurys are manufactured by Tohatsu.
I would go with Yamaha.defrag4 - 8-29-2021 at 08:57 AM

bingo
My first motor was a Tohatsu (great motors but no presence in MX) and I spent a small fortune on international shipping trying to get parts for it,
plus waiting forever for it to arrive
With my Honda, I place a call to the dealer in La Paz and have the part shipped to me the next day for ~$5

If the boat is rated to support it, I'd go with a 25hp Yamaha.
Should be the same weight as 20hp. defrag4 - 8-30-2021 at 08:13 AM

Is that within the state? What carrier do they use?
Speaking of carriers, anyone know who Amazon.mx uses? I haven't ordered from them for a while, but my experience with the service was of amazement:
With items in stock in the Mexican warehouses, delivery typically was within a couple of days.
yes within BCS, from La Paz to Loreto, normally they use Camarena

Good reference, thanks!
Am I the only one that is put off a little by a business having their only online presence via Facebook? Seems unprofessional to me, but I'm kind of
old school...
most businesses down here have no presence at all, so ill take it lol
they started out as an auto parts store, and I guess since they were shipping their own parts around between stores figured they would start a
shipping side hustle as well!pacificobob - 8-30-2021 at 09:28 AM

25hp is 16lbs more
I guess it depends on the manufacturer, our last new outboard a nissan (tohatsu?) 18hp came in at just under a 100 lbs. I seem to recall that jump to
3 cylinders added a whopping 50 lbs! Barry A. - 8-30-2021 at 06:43 PM

For over 20 years I ran a 15hp outboard (a Johnson in my case) on my 14 foot Gregor which was more than adequate, even 15 miles off shore with 3
persons in the boat. Got on a plain easily and ripped over the seas. (-: ligui - 8-31-2021 at 01:58 PM
Bought the 25 hp yamaha. Weight same as the 20 hp. Price $ 4222.00
Didn't shop around for a different price. Bought it from a great dealer I've worked with. Wanted service if needed not penny pinch ing .
I'll let you know how the test run goes.
Time for some fun ! Bob and Susan - 8-31-2021 at 03:54 PM
20 hours of break in time... it will only run 1/2 speed during break in
20 hours is along time when you want to go fast
get a scanner for the motor while you are up there to reset codes if they fail... they are all computerized now... you never know what they are
