This is a first!

As our friends were headed from La Bocana to Punta Abreojos to hit up the ATM, they were asked for their immigration status!

Both were legal but whoaaaaaaaaaaaa This is the first time in 16 years that this has happened here in town. They were not sure who the officials were, not wearing INM uniforms but were wearing some kind of uniform.

When the guys came back (within the hour) the uniformed officials were gone already.

So was it some kind of check point?

That's what I was thinking as well.

It was some kind of checkpoint.

Says a friend that there were 2 immigration uniformed people in our store yesterday. This is so unusual.

Same thing was reported in Mulege a week or two ago.

I live in San Felipe and on three occasions in the last two years I have been asked to show my immigration status. I'm a Perm. Resident and always carry my card. I was asked once at the Border and twice at the Military Checkpoint north of San Felipe...all three times by INM officials. I was asked to hold up my card and my photo was taken. There are sometimes INM Officials at the main entrance to El Dorado Ranch, too.

I have been told that Guarda National is allowed to check documents now also.
