Sorry for all the questions as of late, but we're new here and just building up our knowledge base.
So, we are newly minted permanent residents currently in Pescadero, BCS and we have plans to go visit Puerto Vallarta for December and January. We
had planned to take the ferry across with our foreign plated vehicle as we've done many times before as TOURISTS!, but, I was just perusing the
internet and found this on a website:
Who can apply for a TIP?
Visitors entering Mexico under the auspice of a Visitor permit (FMM) and holders of a Residente Temporal residency visa/card may apply for a TIP. If
you are the holder of a Residente Permanente visa/card you cannot apply for a TIP or take your foreign-plated vehicle to Mexico outside of the defined
Free Zones.
First, is this in fact true? Second, is there any work-around?

Not sure about Permanente getting a TIP, might have to do with the possible requirement for Permanente to operate only nationally plated vehicles
only, (don't think this is enforced much in BCS).
Understand that you will need to exit the country with your vehicle once you go to mainland Mexico. After the permit is cancelled, (save receipt, keep
with vehicle), then you can bring back to BCS. Otherwise the authorities will charge your credit card $$$. This is enforced to discourage selling your
vehicle SOB.
Car rental used to be very inexpensive a few years back, ($5/day for economy), especially if you are self insured, not sure these days.mtgoat666 - 11-28-2021 at 06:58 PM

$5/day rental car? Where can I find that!?!?!?!?gnukid - 11-28-2021 at 09:28 PM
PR can not get a TIP for US plated car, but, a non-PR can get a TIP for US plated car. If all people going on the trip are PR, you can not get a TIP
and will be unable to enter the Ferry. Cancamo - 11-29-2021 at 08:34 AM
$5/day rental car? Where can I find that!?!?!?!?
A cursory online check at Budget Rental brought up $112/week in Queretaro, (self-insured). Always pick up off-site, (not at an airport). Same in
Merida, Oaxaca, Puebla....
Sounds like it has gone up a little since I got one for $59/week.
