Finally, back in Bahía Asunción

Crossed the border at Tecate Tuesday morning, no stopping at secondary, just had to get our FMM’s. On to El Sausal for shrimp tacos at El Trailero, then drove slowly down Mex 1 to Camalu where we had pet friendly reservations at Cueva del Pirata. Drove out the ~2 mile bumpy road only to find the restaurant closed, the hotel office closed, and not a person in sight, other than a Mexican family who had also expected a room. The guy was on the phone to someone and he was PO’ed! Left there and drove on to Jardines where we got a pet friendly room for our 9 pound toy poodle. Had a great dinner there then left early the next morning and stopped at the Terra Sal Hotel in Guerrero Negro. Good dinner at the hotel. Next morning had to stop at the Pemex in Vizcaino to fill up with diesel and go have breakfast and get to the bank as my debit card had expired. Withdrew enough cash from my Bancomer and Schwab debit cards to last us a while in BA as the Western Union office there no longer deals with Bancomer. Stopped off at the CFE to add some Pesos to our account and made it out to our trailer by noon. Since then been cleaning and getting things in order after being gone for over 2 years. (Thanks Covid!) Been visited by friends here and there, looking forward to getting on the water as Rossman said the tuna are still here. He’d been out recently trying for wahoo, but no luck. Don Ramon’s fish and shrimp tacos are still da bomb, and we’re off to the Casita de Los Hamburguesas in just a few minutes. More later, vaya con Dios muchachos!

Did you stop in El Rosario or see any new changes at Baja Cactus Motel with the restaurant construction? I was last there in February 2019.

We only stopped in El Rosario to top off on diesel, we have over a 600 mile range, so I usually top off at the Costco in Temecula and again at Los Pinos or Antonio’s in El Rosario and then again in Vizcaino. That leaves me enough fuel to explore the entire Vizcaino area. Plus with the new(er) gas station here in town getting fuel hasn’t been a problem at all. Had a great dinner last night with old and new friends at the Casita de Hamburguesas. I highly recommend the Italiana Burger with fries. Will go to Don Ramon’s again today for lunch, some of the best fish and shrimp tacos on the peninsula. Unfortunate that the Casita and Don Ramon’s are only open on the weekends or I’d prolly be living there! More to come later on our adventures in BCS.

We hope to be able to come down and see you kids after I get things more in order here. I’ll most likely buy a few dozen oysters for ourselves and some of the other townsfolk here in BA when we’re able to make it down. Take care in the meantime!

I can't imagine what it must feel like coming back to Asuncion after 2 years
We've only been to Mexico once since covid and only to San Quintin. It's been a few years since we've been to Asuncion #our favorite place in all of Baja.
We were gonna go down in Oct but I had surgery on my knee took all my vacation money to pay for it.
We're gonna try for Guerrero Negro in march

Good luck with your knee, I had two total knee replacements before covid. Asunción hasn’t changed much (gracias a Dios) except for the sea wall and the little malecon and kids playground. If you’re going to whale watch with Shari, make reservations ASAP because at dinner the other night she said she’s filling up fast.

Mike and Emily (husband and wife, didn’t get their last name, there here for a few months, currently staying at Campo Sirena in their motor home), Paul Camacho (our vecino in BA - 90 years old and still going strong, walks for miles every morning), myself and then my wife Shelley on the far right.
