Thinking of a trip around the Christmas-New Year break. The kids and I have the time off, but my wife has some things she has to get done by the end
of the month. Pretty sure she could do it if she had Satalite hookup on the beach.
Does anyone know if it's possible to rent the hardware and get a one week subscription to a satellite service? We'll be well off-grid, interested in
where the technology is at these days...?StuckSucks - 12-8-2021 at 09:17 AM
We have rented sat phones from Satmodo in San Diego many times -- very helpful, friendly folks. I would reach out to them re data.
What I have found in the past: satellite-based data is both very expensive and very slow, but that is several years old information.

A friend of mine who does day trading was beach camping a couple years ago with a small dish and seemed to have the required data service DosMars - 12-9-2021 at 09:56 AM

That's where I got the idea. A guy on another forum posted a pic of himself down south in the middle of a 'meeting'. I was impressed... larryC - 12-10-2021 at 08:56 AM
It can be done but you have to in the right circumstance. I install internet service here in BoLA and have a friend/neighbor down here that that
spends the summers over on the beach on the west coast during the summers. He already has a Viasat account so I set him up with a spare dish and tria
and taught him how to aim the dish so now he just takes his modem to the west coast when he goes and has internet on the beach.
I don't think this would work for you. too expensive, but it is possible.Bob and Susan - 12-10-2021 at 09:14 AM

They are the best I have dealt with them many timesStuckSucks - 12-17-2021 at 11:40 AM
We also use Satmodo - Mike got us a pretty darned good deal on a used sat phone for purchase. It's an older model and works great. We have a monthly
fee plan and couldn't be happier with the company's service.
Don't know about data...but it's their integrity that we are impressed with.
