Wow, and at 7PM? Another reason to avoid driving after sunset on relatively remote highways.

What's up with the gardia nacional not taking any interest in investigating the incident?

wasn't the Gonzaga car jacking at broad daylight?

JZ - 12-14-2021 at 07:32 PM

Hmmm. Not good.

JC43 - 12-14-2021 at 08:04 PM

Well, I understand that this is a Baja Forum. But the participants are mostly U.S. Citizens. So why is nobody reporting about the crimescene
inside the U.S.? Far more to report and more death people i.e. at school schootings performed by minors. There are sometimes about 6 or 8 death students and teachers. Isn´t that just a little bit more interesting to report here? :fire::fire::fire:

RFClark - 12-14-2021 at 08:37 PM

So was this on the road to Ensenada?

JZ - 12-14-2021 at 08:41 PM

This is very relevant info to the Forum. When a poster like Harald starts a thread like this you need to give it some credence.

What is the problem with people that travel those roads, including with their loved ones, wanting to have relevant information to stay safe? Just like in Mexico, when I am in the US I want to have all relevant information too. For that, there are other sites and sources of information. This site is for Baja.

There was a shooting. Anything else? Article doesn't say.

honda tom - 12-14-2021 at 09:03 PM

would this be near Rio Hardy

Bajaboy - 12-14-2021 at 09:24 PM

Based on what I've read, this does not concern me one bit. Sounds like a beef between individuals and nothing more.

baja board, so baja topics.

re usa,... the shootings on highways in USA highways are almost always just road rage-related. i cannot remember hearing of any highway robbers are stopping vehicles on the highways here in California (perhaps the only car jackings of moving vehicles I have heard of in CA are on surface streets in urban neighborhoods, not on highways in rural areas).

not many school shootings in baja. i will mention baja school shootings if they start happening.

K 40 south of Mexicali. 160 k north of San Felipe. Not really a SF thing. A bad Baja thing.

Absolutely relevant. Crime in the US has no bearing on crime in Baja and comparing the two is not related to the risks and lack of options driving in Baja. New Travelers in Baja should not be led to believe the two are the same.

RFClark - 12-15-2021 at 10:42 AM

The KM 43 area on HWY5 is south of the end of the 4 lane hwy. There are houses and farms along the east side and fields to the west. There is a small community with a school along side of the road. The road curves in the area so there are blind curves that could allow an ambush.

In general situational awareness is always a good idea as similar things happen on the freeways and streets in and around Los Angeles! Frequently!!

A little confused

NE14Baja - 12-15-2021 at 10:22 PM

I’ve read the report in Spanish and the translated English version. There are a few items I’m trying to figure out, were they traveling north to Mexicali or south towards SF? I would assume you wouldn’t go back in the direction where those that attacked you were. There was also no mention of a pursuit by the attackers.
The article also states that the victims encountered municipal police and were escorted to the Cruz Roja, but it also states that municipal police noticed the Chevy at the clinic and then interviewed a witness…why didn’t the escorting officials interview the witness?
The Spanish reports “ropa quemada” which means “point blank range” hence, burnt clothes. I don't understand if it were a car jacking or robbery why the attacker would just shot the victim without a demand. Doesn’t make sense. Makes for a messy and complicate assault. Truck could still be in gear, you’d have to chase it down the roadway to get what you want if you incapacitate the driver….maybe just stupid criminal, who knows? I know I’m probably over analyzing this report but it just doesn’t jive,
Let’s see how this plays out in the long run.
I wish everyone safe travels in Baja and please exercise all appropriate precautions. Watch your 6!
