Glowman/Green Man San Juan de la Costa

twogringos - 1-21-2022 at 01:27 PM

The last reports I could find said the paint was fading fast. When I last saw it the colors were still pretty good. I thought I'd like to walk up that way again, but I'm not sure I remember the arroyo it was in. Does anyone have GPS or Km marker?

Can't help with that location but here is a highly entertaining "Glowing Man" story from Gene Kira:

Near San Juan de la Costa

I think Harald (4x4abc) can tell you where it is or was?

the link states that you have the lat/long
give it to us and I'll check what's left

twogringos - 1-21-2022 at 06:43 PM

Of course I used the search, and I found a link that purported to have the coordinates: http://community-2.webtv.net/Boojum1/Glowman/ but it is gone and I thought some one might have remembered them.

David K - 1-21-2022 at 08:28 PM

That was an old web page that vanished when WebTV ended about 12 years ago.
Because the Glowing Green Man was vanishing, there wasn't a need to preserve it on VivaBaja.com, or so I thought!
I will search my emails from Tucker and see if it is still there.
Harald, I am surprised!

That pic looks like bad art, let’s call it what it is, ugly graffiti.
Entertaining story about glow-man,… but really bad art.

It has been about 15 years, but as I remember it, the arroyo was one without a rancho at the mouth and like most arroyos had a road up it. Anyone else have a recollection? How about the arroyo at the bottom of the steep downhill 'S' turn where the road drops down to the beach again?

David K - 1-23-2022 at 02:47 PM

Great... Maybe Harald will know which one that is, now? Searching with Google Earth may help spot the same place?

4x4abc - 1-23-2022 at 09:56 PM

I was just out there today
but the description is too vague
all canyons have wild surfaces, caves and vegetation
even if you knew the right canyon - finding that glow stick is difficult
only someone who has seen it and has good location memory will be able to find it

The painting was on the left-hand side at least a mile up the arroyo.

Is it the arroyo 4x4abc posted a photo from?

twogringos - 1-25-2022 at 03:48 PM

I have no idea which arroyo 4x4abc went up, but I'm thinking it is the one called El Sauzoso on the Inegi topo map.

I'll check it if the gate is open
everything has a gate now
I remember that there is an old road in that canyon
about 4 km or so

twogringos - 1-29-2022 at 11:14 AM

I finally had a chance to explore the arroyos along the road to San Juan de la Costa. I think the green man is/was in Agua de Yepiz, but that arroyo is totally fenced off. I'd go to the nearby house to ask for permission but for the 4 car-chasing dogs that are resident there.

David K - 1-29-2022 at 11:19 AM

Is it the arroyo on the above map just north the name or south of the name?
Thanks!

Did you find 'him' or are you just marking the arroyo south of the name on the map?

4x4abc - 1-29-2022 at 01:52 PM

that's the mentioned canyon

no time for glowing stuff right now

Harald,

Do you know what the road along the gulf from La Paz north to Agua Verde is like? What is the road from Agua Verde to the main road to Loreto like?

Thank,

Richard Clark

The coast road from La Paz ends at San Evaristo. You would need to pop in a different way from the west or from the north, depending on your vehicle and roads.

From La Paz to San Evaristo is a very easy and a great drive along the coast.

From there you need to cut to the West. Fairly easy drive from San Evaristo to MX 1 coming out near Constiticion if you have a decent truck.

From here, the fastest way to AV is to take MX 1 around to the coast and then turn-off to AV. MX 1 to AV is a breeze.

Or you can do the AV "back door" which has you taking a dirt trail starting East of Constiticion to AV. This is the toughest leg. Have to have a good truck or SXS.

JZ - 1-29-2022 at 08:28 PM

Here is the route. You don't need to go all the way to MX 1 to connect with the AV back door trail, but I haven't done it or mapped it out.

The satellite pictures show a road of some sort up the gulf as far as Playa San Cosme! No Bueno?
