It's a paved highway... no issues.

Drove it a couple weeks ago, all good.

We drove it last week other than a few rocks on the road no issues. No gas at Puertecitos. Gas at Gonzaga, market open at puerto and Gonzaga. No army at the checkpoint. Restaurant at 1/5 open fast Wifi working! Road patching to Jesus y Maria.

BCS the National Guard was stoping non-Mexicans and checking Visas! No alcohol sales in some places!

Drove there a week ago for the 1st time. Fast and boring, nothing to look at. They made it very straight and very level, cutting ruthlessly through any big or small hill.

Because of this, and because it is new and Mexican, there wasn't enough tidying up done on the sides. Sometimes the walls are just too steep so the rocks roll down to the road, mostly small ones, size of a feast or less. Up North steep walls are covered with steel mesh when they couldn't cut/move it farther, - haven't seen such thing here. Piles of rocks have been left after construction on the side, too.

Being new, it hasn't been through a major hurricane yet, so the pavement is in perfect condition.

After a seldom rain the rocks will be all over the road.
I happened after/during the last rain and will happen again. a full size truck will survive, but a small commuter car will have tire damage.

I drove it last week. Was in perfect shape. Beautiful scenery and beautiful drive.
BTW a major hurricane washed out 10 bridges shortly after the road opened. They detoured around the bridges, put some orange cones up to warn drivers, and eventually got the road repaired.

Yep, in October 2018.

Did you drive with your eyes closed? (just kidding)

No, but I was driving North and my eyes were in front of my head, not at the back :). So this particular view escaped me. Was driving fast, too. Good road to get from A to B. Not many places to pull off between Laguna Chapala and Gonzaga-ish, with all the bridges and cuts in the hills.

Yes, it is a fast, easy drive. No dozens of farm towns and traffic!
Here (Km. 99) is a wide paved parking area. There are a few of these view pullouts... Now you know for next time!

Boy, it quickly became our new favorite road. We drove it twice during the past week! I think when you live in Baja, the fun of lights and buses and towns and cows is just not fun at all. You want to get home safe and sound, and faster.

I don't think that driving through Ensenada or Sun Quintin area with buses and farms has ever been fun to anybody, no matter how long they lived in Baja. The rest of Hwy 1 from Tijuana to Chapala is actually a lot of fun, if you appreciate nice views. But it takes couple hours longer and comes with white knuckle stretches and worn out pavement, could be fun the first couple of times but then it gets old.
