Constitution Day fell on a Saturday this year, so the public holiday will be on Monday 2/7. It seems that in the past everything was closed on public
holidays, but I wonder if that will be the case in a fairly tourist-driven town like Todos Santos. Come to think of it, we usually visit in late
January or early February and never ran into a holiday-related closure.

I have a hard time keeping track of all the holidays we celebrate in the US, and it seems like Mexico has many more of them!
More than a few times, I have been surprised by the main roads through a community being restricted by a parade of school children and local groups.
The kids seem to be having a good time, and I can't help but smile when I think of the parades that I marched in back in the 50s'.

I appreciate these demonstrations whenever I have been fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time.
I recall when I was stuck in La Paz for a few days at a repair station thirty years ago, and watched a circus walk by with an elephant.
I am not ignorant of what kind of life that animal had to have put up with, but the image of sitting on a street and watching this all go by, was
something that forever sticks with me. The entertainment value was certainly appreciated while I was killing time to get back on the road.
All of our thoughts for animal welfare have hopefully advanced and thankfully so since then.
The streets were lined with hundreds, thousands?, watching the procession walk by.
I was just another observer watching the show go by.
Seeing an elephant walking down the street in La Paz was as unexpected as anything, and I have always appreciated the opportunity I was given.
An elephant handler in Baja? Go figure. As I look back, I wish this magnificent, so very social, animal had another of his kind to commiserate with.
It would have made a world of difference to him/her in the quality of life.
Quality of life in a circus has to be hard to find. I am conflicted obviously.
Preservation in the wild along with preserving the species has to come together somewhere. We cannot count on the wild survival as a solution.
The 6th great extinction is upon us. No doubt.
Can humanity step up? I don't see any evidence that we as a species are.
Rant over.
