La Ballena-San Raymundo-Mulege

Been so long since I rode this trail it practically doesn't count. Anyone been through here lately? 4 riders 500 cc singles, all capable Baja vets. I don't remember it being very difficult but I also know weather can change that. We are doing a long day from Bay of LA & if time and body permits, I'd like to squeeze this loop in from San Ignacio. Any help appreciated.

Probably return on the middle trail from the bottom of Conception Bay to San Isidor/Purisima/ San Juanico/ San Ig/ Gurerreo to catch a whale watch the day after.

Thanks all
Mike

Yeah, that route is passable. Rocks and sand. The eastern end is really rough.
That would be a really long day from Bola. A few bicycles have come through, Baja Divide route.

Do not go to mission Guadeloupe, the canyon northeast of there is impassable.

Well, you can go to Mission Guadalupe... but you will have to come back from the mission using the same road.

The road north and east from the mission to San José de Magdalena is washed out, again. It was in 2017 when I went to the mission and they rebuilt it in late 2018.

When I went with Cameron Steele's Trail of Missions Recon (May 2019) it was great to see that canyon and how easily boulders can wash into the road there. Later in 2019, flash floods had again destroyed the road. I was so lucky to see it open!

The episode going to, looking at, and then away from Mission Guadalupe through the canyon: https://youtu.be/FGbWpNvP-kI (primarily minute 6-9)

Hey Al, you joined my group for dinner at Mamma's in Feb 2019, we staying at the same little hotel, big white and blue ford crew cab chase truck - you were driving back to the states. I thought I had your email but couldn't find it - figured if anyone knew it would be you. I know the road was blown out by hurricanes around the mission and its a massive bolder field. It will be a long day, but the road from BOLA to the turn to the Mission St. Gertudis is like a highway and we will slab it from Vizcaino to San Ig to pick up the trail to La Bellena/Mulege. We are 4 - 500 ktms, tight group. Mike
