M/C rider needs to receive FedEx. Update, he did the full peninsula trip ok and is back north. Photo album added.

David K - 2-11-2022 at 11:01 AM

A request from a motorcycle rider (Scott Taggart) in the middle of his trip, from his inReach device:

Hi, need Mulegé address that can accept FedEx shipment of small motorcycle part, business address preferred, if possible. Please text 916 716 0028. Thanks

Feb. 17 update:

Scott ripped to the southern end, Los Naranjos Road, and back north across the border... zipped along and used mostly dirt roads south... and lots of dirt north.
I hope to get a trip report and photos (if he had time to take any)!

I would ask a store, business, hotel, or established business. The bus station would be another option. Folks are helpful, and likely more than willing to accept an "In Care Of" package with prior knowledge. A tip would also be inline.

Send it to Bukovich/Bukovecz motors. Bike mechanic shop south of town, speaks English. No love finding current Addy or number though, someone else cover that?

Thanks! This info has been transmitted to Scott. He is currently near Laguna San Ignacio on his ride. I found the Bukovecz Shop using Google.

Address: km127 Highway 1, Carr. Transpeninsular, H, 23900 B.C.S., Mexico
Areas served: Mulegé
Hours:
Open ⋅ Closes 4PM
Phone: +52 615 104 5423

MulegeAL - 2-11-2022 at 02:15 PM

David,

That is the wrong (old) address, he's not there anymore. Google not updated, the property is vacant.

Try:

km 132 trans highway cachano, H, 23900 Heroica Mulegé, B.C.S.

He is south of town, 10 meters north of the driveway for Senior Geckos restaurant.
A

OK, I will send that to Scott and the other places I posted it. On Google Satellite view, it has it directly west of the gas station (south of town) and at the base of the hill?

In my kilometer notes, I have the Villa María Isabel RV Park at Km. 132+ or about Km. 132.25.
Is his shop near that driveway or any other landmarks?
Jungla Jim's is at Km. 133 and the Serenidad driveway is Km. 131+.

Thanks a bunch!

Reply from Scott: Thanks. Just found out that FedEx will only guarantee 12 day delivery to Mulegé! Any other ideas on shipping from California?

MulegeAL - 2-11-2022 at 05:34 PM

Contact Bukovitch, he has contacts at the border, can put parts on the bus to M.

4x4abc - 2-11-2022 at 05:38 PM

if I can get parts within a week from the US I'll pop some Champagne
within a months is not bad
if it takes 3 months I have learned to live with it

especially when brought down by forum members or other online friends parts sometimes disappear (twice last year)

it's Baja - you are not in Kansas anymore

It always been my understanding that DHL was the most reliable international shipper in Mexico. You can get a time & cost quote on their website.

Get ahold of somebody flying into Serinidad at Baja Bush Pilots? I'll work with someone there I'm a member. I'm not going down anytime soon.

advrider - 2-11-2022 at 09:45 PM

If he posted what was needed, some members might be able to check with local contacts. I have always found something that would work if you ask enough locals?

BajaBlanca - 2-11-2022 at 10:38 PM

If he is in san ignaciol, talk to the yurts. if he is in a hotel, use them for the address.

Everyone knows how remote La Bocana is? 16 years ago, when we were the ONLY Americans living there, Les's company needed for him to sign a document. They said they would overnight it and he said GOOD LUCK with that. I swear that 2 days later, someone was on our porch with the document! It was absolutely unbelievable. I am sorry that I don't remember the company but it can be done!

pacificobob - 2-12-2022 at 07:57 AM

I have things from the US delivered to the house every week from baja shippers.
They charge 36% of the invoice to cover IVA and transportation

Glidergeek - 2-12-2022 at 08:14 AM

I reached out to this guy stating I could attempt to mediate thru BBP and his reply was
"Thanks Russ, Thanks for all your help. No good options for shipping, ect. Continuing on. 1250 miles left to Tecate. Wish me luck!"

David K - 2-12-2022 at 09:02 AM

Very nice outreach from the Nomads!
He is south of Constitución, riding at 55 mph as we speak.
His itinerary is very 'active' with lots of miles each day.
He has no downtime to wait for a package.
I think he was hopeful that the part (I do not know what it is) would get to Mulegé on his northbound trek.

David K - 2-12-2022 at 10:13 AM

On the Ride Baja Facebook group this morning, Scott answered the question as to what he needed shipped:

... timing chain tensioner. Had problems on this bike since I owned. My first dirt tricks one exploded internally. This dirt tricks one in now is not tensioning enough so chain slaps a bit. Continuing ride since impossible to get one shipped in any reasonable time.

Right now, he is near Puerto Chale, south end of Mag Bay.

Very amigo-like of you!
I sent this question to him.

David K - 2-12-2022 at 02:15 PM

Here is his reply:

The guy should call around the shops that carry Ktm parts. Husqvarna and ktm share some parts.

Maybe a local bike shop could order the part more quickly than messing around with self-shipping via fedex.

pacificobob - 2-13-2022 at 10:02 AM

I just don't get why this is an issue. There are a number of companies who provide
This service.

Apparently not within a week??

KasloKid - 2-13-2022 at 01:06 PM

I've heard DHL will get parts to you fairly fast, if you ship it from within Mexico. Tijuana?

I suppose sending from TJ is quicker and there's much less of a chance of it becoming "lost" than if it went through Mexican Customs/Mafia.

pacificobob - 2-13-2022 at 05:45 PM

FEDEX, UPS, DHL all can experience some huge delays here.
UPS took 9 weeks to deliver a 1lb envelope to me.if the tracking was to be believed, it logged about 9k miles with several cross country detours.

David K - 2-14-2022 at 08:18 AM

Speaking of tracking... Scott said he was 'good' when I messaged him about Larry not having parts for his Husky. This morning he left La Paz very early and is near San Evaristo now.

David K - 2-17-2022 at 12:45 PM

Scott is back in the U.S.

David K - 2-20-2022 at 11:24 AM

Great photos. Incredible?
Not at all. Actually quite credible.

RFClark - 2-21-2022 at 09:18 AM

Bonny and Paul at Ignacio Springs B&B (The Yurts) ride bikes and might even have a part. DHL is the best package delivery service in Baja, in my opinion.

Husqvarna motorcycles? Good to know! How was the Canadian breakfast, eh?
