Bruce R Leech - 4-4-2005 at 07:31 PM

according to the stats only 56 % of the Baja Nomads have ever posted on the Forum .in the past week I have met 4 people that sed they are Nomads and read the posts almost every day but never post. come on you nomads we want to here from you. more input only makes it more interesting for all.:bounce:

Bruce, in 2005 so far, there are over 8500 unique visitors each month in the forums -- and we're quickly approaching 1600 registered users here.

Most people visit, but are not participants. One would presume that many are gathering information for travels to the peninsula.

Could I have more than one? How about an open tab?

And where do I send the bill?

Tucker - 4-4-2005 at 08:13 PM

Not trying to win Bruce, just trying to keep a balance.

Bruce R Leech - 4-4-2005 at 08:21 PM

that is cool lets have another round.

Tim - 4-4-2005 at 08:33 PM

I don't post very often on this board. I'm definitely not going to get involved in any posting about Americans being stupid in Mexico (believe me there's plenty of opinions about it already without having to hear my 2 cents).

I'm also not going to post about places I've never been to or pretend that I know of places I've only visited once or twice.

The only times I might post would be to comment on a certain area in Baja that I know well or to comment on a story or posting I find interesting.

But I do log on and "lurk" on this site practically every day.

On a side note, I once said that this board had too much drama for my taste. Well I have to eat those words now. I have learned to like all the different personalities that post here and I've come to realize that everyone's opinion matters in some regard.

To top it off I have 100% respect for Doug Means and what he has done. His was one of the first Baja web sites and remains one of the best. Thanks Doug.

Hi Bruce,

Great person? Thanks I'll take any complement I can get!

As for spelling I still mess up a lot of words but I use spellchecker before I ever post. Then I read the post over and over before I submit. I changed the above message about 3 or 4 times before I posted it!

Thanks again for the complement.

Diver - 4-4-2005 at 08:50 PM

He said grate person.

I know Bruce is a smart man - wonder about the spelling sometimes ??

But go ahead and feel good anyway ! Why not ??

Tim - 4-4-2005 at 08:54 PM

I know about the spelling. I choose to believe he meant "great" -- it makes me feel better about myself!:lol::lol:

One other thing -- Hey Doug about the "Peace, Love & Fish Tacos", is it supposed to be in that order?

Diver - 4-4-2005 at 08:56 PM

The order is as you see it/want it - but that is the commonly known phrase.

Bajabus - 4-4-2005 at 09:15 PM

Tim, they are just trying to lure you into posting. It's like a drug, they are going to get you hooked. They already got you to do it 3 times. Be careful with these guys, they seem innocent enough:saint:

Tim - 4-4-2005 at 09:28 PM

Nah, never happen. I can't afford to post too much or else I'll lose my Junior Nomad status.:bounce:

It'll realistically depend on which way you traverse the peninsula. ;D

..and thank you for your nice words. As of 2005, yours is one of the older sites on Baja travel as well! Let me know if you ever need help with anything.

While we are on history, let me just add that Tim was agood friend from the days of my 'gobaja' chat room... He helped me get my web site off the ground and hooked me up with Dick, on BajaLinks.com.

It was Tim who thought of inviting other Baja web folks to that get-together/meeting on the San Clemente Pier in early 2000, which evolved into the 'Viva Baja' fiesta of which four have been held.

Thanks Tim Walker... and also thanks for co-hosting Fred Metcalf's Baja Calif. Travelers Message Board... the first Baja Internet forum!

Doug, It would be interesting to know how many members were registered prior to the old Amigos board closing down. I really enjoy this format a lot better - and surely thank you for all you do for all of us Baja lovers!

This forum software was uploaded in 2002... Amigos shut down in August of 2003. At that time, there were just over 200 registered members here.

Before that, I'd had a message board using FrontPage software... which I recommended to Eric of Amigos.. and they were much better - and much more patient with it - than I. My old FrontPage site, although closed, is still online at:
http://bb.escapist.com/baja

With all the work it took to maintain that site/software, I had NO desire to manage all that - and let it die a quiet death.

With the advent of new forum software, and my hosting websites for others, I felt it important to learn the new software, and simply loaded it to the BajaNomad site to test and learn with... and it wasn't too bad, as the administration area made it not-too-bad to manage/moderate/etc.

I originally posted a website online circa 1994/5 via my AOL account I was using at the time. I had been answering questions online on USENET and AOL boards - but was inspired by Fred Metcalf's information online... as were both answering traveler's questions, only he answered the same questions once, where I was doing it over and over and over... and thought... HEY, a website is the way to go, no doubt. The original site:
http://users.aol.com/bajanomad/guide.htm

...which now points to where I moved the site:
http://www.escapist.com/baja

... and that site (information very outdated now), still gets about 5000 unique visitors a month (at last count).
