Sorry to change the topic, but how does one create a new thread?

Specifically, and for future reference to all travelers, with all the oil company's now selling gas/diesel in Baja besides Pemex, are there any of them that consistently provide better prices?

This inquiring mind wants to know which brand to look for on my next trip south. Quality included, if there is any difference in the quality of the fuel being sold.

There are so few choices in the central region, just go to one that is open and has gas. Doug can correct me, but I think the gasoline is all the same just the vendors are different... like here in California. All the various brands of gasoline trucks fill up at the depot from the same tank! Maybe each truck adds a cup of their proprietary ingredient (like Chevron's Techron), I don't know where that happens? The prices are very close to each other.

A non Pemex place in Santa Rosalia was only 1 or 2 pesos less than Pemex a few days ago, but they were out of gas!

Range to somewhere next usually drives our gas buys anyway, especially on bikes.

I never miss and will always continue to plan to stop at Antonios in El Rosario. That will not be changing. He is deserving of our business.

Filling up there gets me to GN easy, and back to the border heading north.

The prices are not comparable when the vendor is selling short liters. So many vendors (most) claim to sell in liters, but recalibrate the pumps so their “liters” are actually something like 900 ml. Most gas stations are staffed by crooks!

If you are wondering if the introduction of foreign gas stations has increased competition, it hasn't. One need only look at how far gas prices fell around the world during the height of the pandemic. In the US, where much of the foreign gas/diesel was coming from, it was a price reduction of over 50%.

In Mexico, at least where I live, the reduction was 1-2 pesos per liter, at most.

Gas in our area is no3 23-24 pesos per liter, so well over 4.00/gallon.

Pemex and the new outlets that sell their product over here (Windstar, BestGas, Flecha) undercut Arco and Chevron by only around 0.05 pesos per liter, at most.

Here in San Felipe we have found that ARCO is honest about the liters the sell also the PEMEX at the Gloretta is accurate. All others cheat and sell you less that what teh pump reads.
Price wise all advertise nearly the same price per liter.

Baja CA has gas prices that run from 18+-19+ Per Liter in Mexicali to 22+ Per Liter in Loreto yesterday and 20+ Pesos in Cabo. Costco Cabo has the best price and usually is less than 20 Pesos. That’s around $3.75/Gal. The US Costco’s are selling gas for $4.29/Gal near the border in CA.

Contrary to other opinions I don’t think Costco Cabo is cheating on the Liters! What “enquiring minds” should want to know is why Costco Cabo can sell gas for over 50 cents/Gal less than can Costco San Diego! (Rhetorical Question!)

Costco in San Marcos, CA on Saturday was $4.359/ gallon for 87 octane.

Speaking of which, decades ago I recall stopping at the pier/wharf fish market in Ensenada and buying 7 fish tacos for a dollar. From the boat to the grill to consummation, couldn't be any fresher.

Those were the days my friends. We all have and cherish them.

Maybe it's because CA has a $0.533 tax per gallon. About twice over all other states except Pennsylvania $0.586 and Washington $0.519952.

I remember my first fish tacos in San Felipe, in 1977. They were 20 cents each and the next trip they were a quarter. Man, so good... from a stand along the main N/S street, just north of the end of Hwy. 5... before there was a malecon street one block east.

E vehicles are using roads w/o paying taxes like ice vehicles. Time to create a mileage tax for e vehicles :light:

Yes, they were great.
It was fun to take my friends there and convince them to try it. Initially, they were grossed out by the idea of a fish taco .. lol. They couldn't stop eating them once they had one!

Mexico does use oxygenates in gasoline. Mexico still uses MBTE (and some other oxygenates) in gasoline. MBTE was banned in USA, but Mexico still uses it.
I think a few years ago there was an attempt to use more ethanol in mexican gasoline, but it got shot down (probably due to lobbying by MTBE mfgs/vendors). I think ethanol is used in Mexican gasoline, but it is capped at certain percentages by region.
Mexico does have seasonal and regional requirements for gasoline,….

FYI, use of ethanol in gasoline results in pretty minor decrease in mileage, about 3% decrease for 10% ethanol.

Ethanol is beneficial, as it allows refiners to produce lower quality gasoline and rely on ethanol to increase the octane rating,… and ethanol in gas makes the gas cleaner burning, better for the environment and our lungs.

Corn belongs in tortillas not in car engines.
The production of ethanol has turned out to be far more harmful to the environment than using gasoline without it.
Ethanol is also not a good thing in your motor... it lowers the energy output and thus delivers fewer miles per gallon. How is using more gasoline better?
In Mexico, my 16 mpg Tacoma gets 18 mpg or better.

After talking to the fuel depot yesterday, he said they are no longer sending gas loads to Mexico. When they were sending loads of gasoline, it did not include ethanol. Just following up on my promise to ask….

Sources of gasoline for Baja
The marine Baja terminal.
The terminal is located at the La Jovita Energy Center, located 23 kilometers north of Ensenada, Baja California.
Sempra Energy, a San Diego-based energy services holding company delivers liquid fuels to the terminal produced by British Petroleum.
Andeavor, another refiner, also delivers to this marine terminal and supplies gas stations like ARCO, BP. And Exxon and probably others?
ARCO is marketing so called Top Tier stuff, but it all comes from the same source in Ensenada.
The terminal also supplies diesel probably the same diesel sold in the USA. Now days all diesel refined in the USA is Ultra low Sulphur.
