In PSC look at Hotel Villas Mar y Arena on the water just before you turn into PSC. Founded and owned by Fito Gonzales a former congressman of the
district and local civic leader.

In town stay at the recently refurbished Hotel Brennan which is run by Emilia Bennan, who with her late husband Ed built one of the first "nice"
hotels in the area, established in 1996. There is a nice old school feel to their hotel and it is very clean and cozy.

In LM look at Magdalena Bay Outfitters Whales Tail Inn. The owners, Bob and Diane Hoyt have been there quite a while and are also very friendly,
knwledgable of local information, The rooms are small but very comfortable.
Setup is more like an inclusive fish lodge, meals included and served to everyone in a common dining/bar great room.

All those places are capable of setting you up for day trips on the water to whale watch, birding, fishing and sharing local knowledge.
My personal opinion is LM is much more laid back and quiet and PSC is a vibrant Baja and a very you are in Mexico, seafood industry town. PSC has some
really great panaderias too!
Enjoy your visit. In either place there is no gringo hill!

We stayed in this AirBnB with another couple for whale watching. Very nice house and fortified to withstand the zombie apocalypse. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/23080745?source_impression_id=p...
re places to stay in san carlos and lopez mateos

Thank you for taking the time to respond with suggestions
Lopez seemed too small so we went on to San Carlos
not a place that I would recommend to anyone though
we stayed at the Eco Hotel on the water - noisy, expensive and
smelled pretty bad (backed up sewer or something)
but the rest of the trip was well worth the not so great night there
Thanks Again!
