Tomatillo Salsa Recipie

Stephanie Jackter - 9-17-2003 at 11:21 AM

Here's an super easy tomatillo salsa recipie.

-4 or 5 tomatillos
-1 or 2 serano chiles
-clove of garlic
-chopped cilantro
-chopped onions
-water

take the husks off the tomatillos and the garlic and throw them, along with the chile(s), in the microwave for 5 or 6 minutes. Whir them up in a blender with enough water to thin it out. Then add the onions and cilantro. - Stephanie

Hey there Steph - You got your wish I see Doug has a recipie section now! How long to cook these goodies on a camp stove --- I will be needing something to break the beans and rice and corn cycle.

And reefrocket, I'm sure you'd just boil then a few minutes on the camp stove as well. The tomatillos, chilis and garlic can also be roasted, which really brings out the flavor. Don't know how you're gonna work the blender into that format, though.

I've seen those hand crank blenders at REI and they'd be perfect for this. (OR, you could do some squoooshing in a molcajete.) I also agree that a few minutes extra time roasting the vegies would make a big difference.

Thanks all. Will give it a try. Planning on loseing some weight as my cooking is much likened to dumpster diving.
Blender? isn't that like a spoon and stirring.:D

Not quite, reefrocket. A blender is more like a knife and chopping stuff as fine as you can.
