Crossing N/B with a travel trailer

John M - 4-21-2022 at 04:41 PM

We are interested in taking our travel trailer south for a couple of weeks, is the S/B at Mexicali East the same lanes as with our truck alone?

More importantly would be returning to the US - again we prefer Mexicali East. I recall seeing something about R/Vs in the right, regular lane -

Any experience?

Southbound same as your truck but expect to be directed over to the side for inspection.

NB you have to use the regular lane not Ready Lane or Sentri. We always use the East crossing when pulling a trailer.

Mexicali East with a travel trailer/RV -

Approach the border line-up from the east and bear right into the line-up lane. RV's/Trailers stay in far right lane.

At times, the far right lane may split into two immediately before the border station but RV's/trailers should stay to the right. Overhead signs will guide you at the end if two lanes are open for RV's on the specific day of your crossing.

Mex East
South bound Normal entrance - no declare

Northbound use standard lane and keep right.

Follow instructions both ways using the east approach on the other thread. Use that route going north or south.

Done it many times with no issues.

Expect to be stopped going south for vin and other inspections. The border person will make a place for you to stop and park. Sometimes the immigration person will inquire. If you need an FMM ask where to go. It is nearby and pay there, not at a bank.
