Road Trip Lunch Spots.. Jesus Maria-Vizcaino

TLBaja79 - 4-29-2022 at 08:31 AM

What are the best spots to stop for lunch between Jesus Maria and Vizcaino?
My go to Chicken guy is no longer in business.

Good food and hopefully somewhat fast...

Also San Ignacio, if you have a good spot there.....

The fish taco truck in Guerrero Negro has to be a top pick, unless you want a sit down restaurant?
He used to park on the main street through town but I heard he moved one block north? Shari or others might confirm.

Turn right past the orange water tower while going west, 2 blocks down on the right. He’s in the parking lot where he’s building a restaurant, complete with a drive through window! Best fish/shrimp tacos in GN, IMO.

Paulina's -- in Jesus Maria, across street from Pemex.
Good sit down place, fairly fast service, nice enclosed palapa style building.

Marios on the highway a mile or so before GN heading south is worth a stop. Their huge palapa is a thing of beauty and the food is just as good.

They have some live music sometimes at night for the added ambiance.

Hard to go wrong by giving them a chance.

Here are two great options for Vizcaino.

First is the loncheria across from the Pemex as you enter town. It has recently moved just south (next to) of its old location next to the bus terminal. Great tortas and fries.

Also the fish taco place just south of the Pemex (same side of the street) is spot on!

My go-to is Marios palapa just before the GN turnoff. I like their machaca burritos.

We used to stop at the palapa restaurant across the street from the Pemex in Villa Jesus Maria - omg those fish tacos were soooo good but they burned down quite a few years ago. I hear she opened up a truck but there are several and I don't know which one is hers.

At the PEMEX station on the north end of Vizcaino there use to be an old lady selling tamales. Some of the best I've eaten. I haven't been there in a while so I don't know if she is still around. Watch out for the seed in the black olive in them.

Awesome, thanks. Going to try a couple of these for sure!

Agree with Paulinas. Though they were closed last time we drove through....probably just the wrong day

Is Paulina associated with Lupita, the sister of the late Tamale Lady, Carmelita?

If yes, she first had a restaurant on the same side as the Pemex, just south of it. I ate there in 2017, it was very good. That place was later closed and I heard she moved across the highway.

Lupita's near the Pemex, in 2017.

What was the location of Lupita's, and to the right, Carmelita's, in May 2019.

Do you recall the name of Paulina's restaurant, if not "Paulina's"?

It’s called “Paulina’s” or maybe it is “mariscos Paulina”

I have been looking forward to stopping at that food truck in GN for the past couple of years, but have missed it.

I now see it has moved off the main roadway to establish a permanent restaurant location and good for them.

I hope to check in with them the next time I am down their way.

As a favorite breakfast place on the GN road into town, The Nautilus is highly recommended. Their hot chocolate is not to be missed. Neither are their breakfast options.

When I am in GN town, I cannot come up with a better breakfast place to support.

Tacos El Muelle. Worth it every time. We plan our trips to hit this taco truck.

David, you just reminded me of all the great meals and talks that I had with Carmelita. I miss Carmelita she left us too soon.

Tony's in Guerrero Negro did not disappoint. Great Tacos, quick and exactly where he was said to be.
We'll be back there in the future.

GREAT NEWS...
I see your new trip report answered my questions, thanks!
