TIP/Banjercito Office in Tecate?

larry - 6-16-2022 at 10:45 AM

I’ve been traveling around Mexico and will soon be heading home. I would like to cross at Tecate, but I need to return my vehicle permit at a TIP/Banjercito office. Can anyone confirm that there is one a the Tecate crossing? Thanks.

Yes, but it is not at the border crossing, it's a block away, at least it was the last time I had to do that. I got to the border crossing and they just kept trying to wave me through, but I said I need to turn in my TIP and get a removal receipt. It was kind of funny, because that was back when they had just changed the immigration laws and people who had been on a temporary residency for at least 4 years, as I had, had to go to permanent residency. Then Aduana said that anyone who had permanent residency had to remove their foreign plated car from the country.

This was being strictly enforced on the mainland, where I live, but I had gone to visit my daughter in Baja before driving up to the border. Because there are different vehicle rules in Baja, or at least the Baja officials seem to play by their own rules, they were surprised at the Banjercito module that I was insistent on having them scrape the sticker off and give me a receipt that I had taken the vehicle out of the country. The Aduana official said I didn't need to, I could just drive out, and I said, no, I was a permanent resident now and had to get my Canadian plated car out and prove that I had. He was totally surprised and asked where I had heard such a thing. I reached out and tapped the badge on his chest and said "From your big jefe in Mexico City".

Just check a Google map, you should be able to see where the Banjercito/TIP module is, a block west of the outgoing border crossing.

I'm also, sadly, on my way back up after my mainland trip. I can see the Tecate Banjercito on google maps but the hours aren't listed. I called the number and spoke to an annoyed random person who said I had the wrong number.

A search doesn't give me any official info, just some conflicting info on their hours of operation.

Does anyone know what hours the Tecate banjercito is open, especially over the weekend?

Or know the official phone number or web page?

So frustrating to do a search these days and get mired on pages of search optimized algorithm generated junk web sites ....

This has been a burning question for me, too.

Found on the interweb, but not validated.

To cancel your Temporary Import Permit (TIP) in Tecate, Baja California, you can visit the Banjercito office located on the Mexican side of the border. The address is:

Av. Lazaro Cárdenas 201, Corner of Callejón Madero, Zona Centro, Tecate, Baja California, Mexico, 21400

The office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, and on weekends (Saturday and Sunday) from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. For any questions, you may contact the Tecate Banjercito office at +52 (665) 521 2536.

Make sure to bring your original TIP documentation and any necessary vehicle paperwork for a smooth return process.

Yeah I saw links like this and others they said they are closed Sundays, and different phone numbers.

I figured I'd see of any nomad has their info. I will call a few more of the seemingly random contact numbers I found online.

Came thru Tecate south bound three weeks ago. Stopped to get my fmm and could not pay the fee at the imagration office. Was told we had to go to the the bank outside the office to pay the fee and it was not open. Had to wait 45 minutes until the bank opened. We asked what the hours and days the bank was open. We were told seven days a week 8am until 9pm.

The small bank window is at the boarder gate. It would be very difficult to go to with a boat on the trailer turn around and get out.

Similar scenario two weeks ago when I crossed at Tecate. I used to buy the FMM on-line until it got too glitchy. Used to be a quick stamp of already completed paperwork at immigration and through the border. About 10 minutes and done.

Last year I started buying the FMM it at the border. The immigration officer took our payment around the back offices to the Banjercito and brought the receipt back. All done in under 20 minutes.

This year, there is an official who greets you, then a wait in line, then into the office for completion of the FMM. This took about 30 minutes due to a group of confused others who had bought their FMM on line and butted in line.

Off to the Banjercito I went. It was open, there was a line-up, but there were no staff and no one could find them. A 15 minute wait until the staff arrived and processed the payment. There was a person in training, so perhaps things will speed up eventually. The confused group had already had their FMMs processed, but because they had pre-paid, they didn’t have to wait in line at the Banjercito. Finally done and my way in just under an hour.

I imagine the bigger crossings are better organized, but this is the best crossing for my itinerary. There continuous updates at the Tecate crossing each time through, so here’s hoping

Turning in a TIP at this crossing would be an interesting skills test.

Well I am up for the challenge. Usually I cross in Tijuana on I5 southbound and Tecate northbound. I don't remember where I canceled my TIP last time but it was a long time ago.

To maximize my chances I'm going to overnight near the border and show up at banjercito Mon midmorning.

No one amswered at the phone number you posted.
