Cabo Pulmo - vacation photos added!

My niece wants to take her 2 young ones snorkeling at Cabo Pulmo per my recommendation. Any hints on an inexpensive hotel for her to stay at for a week?

I have recently heard that Vedanta Resorts who are building a large resort development have closed a section of the Coast road near Zacatitos, so your family may want to access Pulmo from the North passing through La Ribera rather than taking the Coast Road from San Jose. Locals are not happy and are complaining.

For years now you've been able to use a better paved road that runs inland from the Zacatitos beach road to access the East Cape and Cabo Pulmo from San Jose. It rejoins the beach road and the pavement ends a few miles north of Zacatitos and the Vidanta development.

Here is how the Baja Atlas of 2021 shows the 'Camino Cabo Este' paved road and dirt road on to Cabo Pulmo, with kilometer markers:

When i watch greedy short-minded people ruin cabo, east cape, cabo pulmo, climate, etc.,
I think perhaps the best solution for the world is Armageddon, wipe the slate clean and start over.
Seems like humans just flock things up, so perhaps time to make humans extinct and let another species start over. Perhaps they can do it right.

That was done years ago. The developer built a new concrete section of road inland to enable them to better develop the land closer to the coast. This is a common practice in Baja and particularly on the East Cape road. The same thing was done at Nine Palms and more recently at Play Thule. the new sections of road are better than the old road, but not nearly as beautiful. They are inland and you loose the beautiful ocean views. Progress...??? or regression???

Looked at the sites and they are too expensive for my neice to afford. Isn't there a simple/more affordable hotel near the beach? It seems to me there used to be what looked like a small place way back in the day. Thanks.

Stay at Spa Buena Vista - the yurts. And do a day trip to Cabo Pulmo, a day trip near Rancho Leonero for snorkling, a day trip to San Bartolo to swim in the spring-fed pool; get a day pass at Rancho Buenavista next door; snorkling at the beach at the entry to main road to La Ribera (the beach south of there by the rocks - ask to park at the RV camp.

Cabo Pulmo is lovely, but a bit remote. I don’t think there is a typical hotel there, but there used to be something like a bed and breakfast. Beach camping is free!

Los Barriles alternative: Martin Verdugo’s Beach Resort is a clean, family friendly hotel on the beach. There are rooms with kitchens and snorkelling opportunities start right front. Rooms starting around $90 USD/night and there are camping sites. There is a great little snorkelling spot at some rocks about a 30-minute walk south of the hotel.

Other beach front options are the Villas de Cortez condos on the beach, rentals through VRBO, Playa del Sol Hotel and The Agave Hotel and Cantina Hotel right in front of the snorkelling rocks. Groceries, restaurants and diversions are also within easy walking distance. Lots of restaurants and lots to do, boat tours, horseback riding, yoga, pickle ball, golf, amazing hiking/cycling trails and, of course, fishing.

Posting on Baja Pony Express and Everything Los Barriles (Facebook) could turn up some off season leads.

My niece, her two kids and her Mom went to Cabo Pulmo Bungalows and LOVED IT!

Thanks so much for the recommendation.












I love that I have all the time in the world and was able to help her plan everything from reservation to car rental. She has been on the work treadmill and the whole family needed and wanted beach beach beach and remoteness.
