The sunken yacht may be denied insurance coverage because it was operating as an illegal charter.

That is so sad, such a gorgeous beach.

4x4abc - 8-31-2022 at 07:59 PM

I remember the time when I moved to the next beach when I saw more than 3 people at Balandra
then the city advertised its beautiful daughter to the world
they truly soiled her
some summers the beach was closed due to too much caca in the water
so the number of people arriving by car was limited
people lined up at 6 to get in at 8 (if they were lucky)
but there is a loophole
the number of boats is not regulated
you hire a panga and go to Balandra any time you want
and, you guessed it, too may boats will be the new problem
well, one of the illegal charters burned

there are still people who say tourism is good

I have never spent any time in Baja Sur during the summer, but I did visit Balandera just before the pandemic started in Jan 2020.

It was crowded enough that I did not want to stay, but I did eat there and looked around a bit. I could be wrong, but it appeared to me that the entire crowd was local people.

I really did not pay much attention to the boats in the bay.

nothing in La Paz is done right

the sunken yacht was pulled up to remove the source of contamination
but they lost the boat and it sank again
now in much deeper water

yesterday a historic picture of the first kiosk on the Malecon was published
somehow they "forgot" to build stairs to first floor
musicians had to climb a ladder to play on the platform

this image perfectly characterizes La Paz - they can't get anything right

Balandra Yatcht Removal Gone Wrong

wiltonh - 9-2-2022 at 04:02 PM

Due to weather and other problems the yacht that sunk at Balandra was raised and towed 2.5 km North before it had to be cut loose again. It is now back on the bottom.

Interesting translation! It refers to the damage caused by leaking fuel from the sunken yacht as a "natural disaster".

I guess that puts it in the same status as earthquakes, tidal waves and tropical storms!

memories of the Salvatierra!

Why do you refer to “they?” You live there, so you are part of the they. You should say “we can’t get anything right.”

It takes a village….

Well, you know what was meant. Language translation is difficult, consider translating this simple sentence:

"Mary had a little lamb."

There are a couple of ways you could go with that. ;)

AKgringo - 9-2-2022 at 04:57 PM

I suppose they could have meant that it was "disastrous to nature"? :?:

SFandH - 9-2-2022 at 05:02 PM

bingo

RFClark - 9-2-2022 at 05:41 PM

SF&H

English has a few ambiguities like that as well. I always wondered what it is that lives in a Fallout Shelter, since the homeless live in a homeless shelter.

I remember a Japanese couple in the local 7-11 looking at a 6-pack of light dark beer.

vacaenbaja - 9-2-2022 at 07:05 PM

I used to play LEAD guitar in a metal band but it got too heavy for me

AKgringo - 9-2-2022 at 07:13 PM

I was a lightweight, all I could handle was air guitar.

RFClark - 9-2-2022 at 07:49 PM

FS&H,

The Scout version of that “Mary” rhyme pinpoints the ambiguity.

They add, “the lamb turned out to be a Ram and ——-“ you can guess the rest!

This thread sank faster than the yacht

If anyone has real news on the sinking let us know

it sank as it was being towed away, it sank in deeper water away from balandra bay. Not much else to know!

I wonder how deep it is. There might be some easy pickings for SCUBA divers.

It went down like a lead balloon?

4x4abc - 10-12-2022 at 10:58 AM

interesting that the salvage company "lost" the wreck just outside the protected Balandra reserve in very deep waters. Plan is, to leave her there.
Owner of the yacht is a powerful businessman/politician in Mexico. Some dech hand will go to jail for 10 years and all will be fine.

4x4abc - 10-12-2022 at 11:04 AM

reason behind this boat disaster is the regulation that only a small number of cars and their passengers can visit Balandra every day (too much fecal matter in the water). They way out, if you had to visit Balandra, was to hire a panga to ship you there. Lotsa road signs "Balandra boat taxi here". No restrictions on the number boats (someone in the government "forgot" that possibility)

one of the papers above states that the maximum boat size in the Balandra protected zone is 12 meters.
I pulled up some recent Google Earth images.
About half the boats are way past 12 meters in length.

every single boat in the image below is larger than 12 meters
the largest one in the center is 20 meters
