an elevated train from the border to rosarito?

well here's an ambitious plan!

Tijuana.- This morning the state government announced the project of an elevated electric train that will connect Tijuana with Rosarito and whose works will begin in 90 days.

The transport in question, which will be entirely private investment and is called Sky Train Baja, will go from the Mexico Gate and its route will cross the Tijuana River channel, Madero Avenue, Fundadores Boulevard, Rosas Magallón Libration, to join Playas de Rosarito from the free highway to Plan Libertador in said municipality.

“This train means to unite, elevate, communicate, open a new path to the heights. Today we are part of the birth of a work that will completely change the vocation and the face of the metropolitan area of ​​Tijuana and Rosarito”, said the Governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda.

In turn, during the presentation, Alfredo Acosta Gómez, President/CEO of Jeca Railway Corporation, the company in charge of the project, announced that the Tijuana-Rosarito intercity train is considered as a first phase.

"Tijuana is not only the entrance to Mexico," said Acosta Gómez. “Tijuana is the gateway to Latin America. We got to see each other and we did this great development, this great project that we said: it has to detonate Playas de Rosarito in a first phase, and a second phase in Valle de Guadalupe”.

The total route will be 21 kilometers with a transfer from origin to destination of 30 minutes. Acosta Gómez assured that for users it will represent a considerable saving on the current transfer cost and pointed out that children under 4 years of age and over 60 will not pay for the use of the train.

They estimate around 140 thousand users per day and benefit 500 thousand people.

The stations will have a bathroom and a culture area with a toy library, he reported, and both these booths and the units themselves will be completely inclusive, designed to facilitate use by people with various disabilities.

“We did not want to make a train just to do it, but we saw that both the origin, which was the Puerta México, and our destination, it was extremely important to make a great development, for which we are not only developing the train per se, but two great trams (trams)”, which will be the origin and destination, explained

The President of Jeca Railway Corporation indicated that the train will be promoted not only in the entity, but also in the southern part of California, since this project is seen as a trigger for tourism development in Playas de Rosarito.

It will have an investment of between 500 and 600 million dollars, completely private initiative and without public funds, with a generation of between 8 and 10 thousand direct jobs, apart from seven times more indirect jobs.

Although the brand of trains to be used has not yet been selected, it will surely be a Chinese company and it is a development with clean energy, which will not generate pollutants in its operation or maintenance, said the manager.

The master work plan was delivered on August 30 and the first phases of the project will be ready in a couple more months, to start up in approximately 90 days, he said.

The project also includes the possibility of a theme park, as well as two large buildings, one with 80 floors and another with 60 levels, at the Puerta México station, with a completely transformed entrance to the country.

Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda said she was pleasantly pleased with the way in which the company in charge of the work has been developing the executive part of the project.

“Today we are honored to present the first fully sustainable public transportation system for Baja California: our Tijuana-Rosarito intercity elevated electric train,” said the Governor.

It is, continued Ávila Olmeda, a work "that will not represent any expense of the public resources of Baja Californians because it is a one hundred percent private work."

The Governor described the Jeca Railway Corporation as a "model company", with large mobility works in other parts of the country.

"We are doing everything on our part and giving all the facilities so that the company can carry out this investment," added the president. "We do not offer aspirin or temporary remedies, but rather major and comprehensive works that will cure a problem at the root, deep solutions."

Which do you think. Will get built? Me think the TJ-Ensenada line will never materialize due to no money, and the little cottonwood gondola will get tied up in courts.

Mexico can just buy the discarded remnants of the soon to be cancelled California Bullet Train To Nowhere. Save the electricity to power electric cars, buses, trucks, and ditch this mistaken project.

It says that the train is to develop additional tourism, and I can see that it could be a fun thing to do. My gut feeling is that the bulk of the riders will be people who live in that part of Baja, but work or have business north of the border.

So, figure 200 per train, that would work out to 700 train trips per day.

Maybe they could set up grandstands, put in parallel tracks and have races.

And we thought the Brown/Newsom Brain-Train group was nutzo
(Well, actually I still think they are nutzo, but can't wait to see this explosion of technology in TJ)

The project sounds legit:

Except the National Parks and God built those and government management is doing its very best to screw that up.

Government built projects are easy to spot
Poorly designed, cost overruns and outdated before they are finished.

The only "government" contribution is money and that is our taxpayer dollars, well diluted by bureaucrats before being applied to the bill.

California highways are a classic example. Worst highways in the country
Highest gas taxes in the country.
Government, at every level, is raking off its cut before spending on hard costs.

"Woke" indeed.....Snooze is more like it

Y’all like to complain about your government. But first you should go live in mexico (or pakistan or any number of other countries) to experience bad government services.
In my experience, usa government(s) do an ok job given the tax rates citizens are willing to pay.
I have seen better governments in scandinavia, but i doubt usa citizens are willing to go that route.

Stop complaining. Americans got it pretty good compared to most of the rest of the world!

You all complain about the government, but you sure do like your govt services!

They like government services, they rely on government services, and sometimes they desperately need government services. But, they don't want to pay for it. So, they like free stuff, who doesn't?

Who says conservatives aren't socialists at heart?

Like the theory says, drop tax rates, increase tax revenues. So, let's just drop the rates to zero and we should have infinite revenue for government?

But, if you understand the Laffer curve (had him at USC as a professor) it only applies when tax rates are already so high they are stifling productivity. Tax rates in the US have never empirically been that high, so it's really not applicable as policy. But, it sure sounds good as theory and fools a lot of gullible voters. So, it works, but not the way intended.

To be honest, a train going down Baja all the way would be wonderful for all. That has always been my contention! I think so many would use it.
