Travel in Baja

I am wondering as to any recent experience driving from Mexicali on Highway five, intersecting with highway one and onto Mulege in terms of road safety and any issues with vandalism. Does anyone have any recent experience? The violence in Tijuana is of some concern to me.

Hell, u should try L.A., Oakland, San Fran, sac, Salinas. I could go on all day.. If this stupid war on drugs was stopped ( too much money for the CIA) all of this cartel C_ap would suddenly STOP.. Cocaine International Aviation... CIA. Spent a YR down in Central America and saw 1st hand with boats going around. Was at Oliies point, Nicky got to know the guys that lived at the airstrip and sea pics of C130's being loaded with Coke. Baja is a very, very safe place on this spinning rock.. Any and all Borders (Frontera's) are shaky...get a Grip !!:?:

Been using Highway 5 since the beginning of time (for me, 1965 was my first time and March 2022 was my last)... If you stop in a city... lock your doors... any city... Mexico, too!

First time in Baja you think everyone is a thief or a drug dealer. Once you get more experience down there you will meet a lot of amazing people.

Having said that….

We always cross at Mexicali at 7:00 am on Sunday morning. The place is a ghost town then, so less chance of an accident or dirty cops. First day we drive to Gonzaga Bay at Punta Final. Once you are away from the border towns you reduce your problems of an incident.

Learn some Spanish and have fun.
