Hwy 5 & Hwy 1 Hotels after Kay

TLBaja79 - 9-13-2022 at 07:43 PM

Hey I'm planning a trip down to Loreto next week

Sounds like the roads are passable in one form or another at this point.

Does anybody have first hand knowledge of the hotels? Restaurants? along the way
San Felipe
Alfonsinas

Jardines
Baja Cactus
Catavina
Guerrero Negro Terrasal
San Ignacio

Thanks

San Felipe is biz as usual.

Just go and all will be fine... or it will make a great story one day, either way it will be fun.

Probably best to call the hotels where you want to stay, they can tell you if they are open. And never hurts to have reservations…

And even if you have a reservation, it is a good idea to call and confirm it when you are about a half day away from arrival. Some hotels may not pass up a paying customer and risk having an empty room if the reservation holder doesn't show up.

Hotel Terasal - just message them on Facebook Messenger (I use Google translate) I just made a reservation for early November. Yurts at San Ignacio Springs website also up and running so you should able to make a reservation.

I have a friend staying at Alfonsinas this weekend, so I am assuming it is OK.

Guerrero Negro Hotels, Gonzaga Bay Alfonsinas, Mulege camping

Stayed on Thursday night 9-15-22 in Guerrero Negro at Alma Viajera (old Don Gus) was open but some of the rooms looked under repair. Had another nice ribeye for $350P. The 60+ foot radio antenna there at Alma Viajera folded in half but to their credit Osprey can build a nest! Most all of their nests up there on the pole were in tacked(and along the hwy), those birds might be better nest builders than fisherman. Malarrimo Hotel parking lot was flooded with only a few spots available and nobody there at 0630 MDT as we rolled out. Don't know if they are open. Terrasal Hotel if that is first hotel on right it did not look like much damage but did not see any cars. Looks like workers repairing Valle Jesus Maria road damage are in G Negro. Lotsa flooding in G Bay, Alfonsinas was closed but then someone said they friend is there, we went out there yesterday to eat and it was closed. Maybe they were mucho crudo from Independence day. Would not waste time driving out there again. San Felipe was bustling with lots, I mean lots of off road activity, hotels got to be open. Camping in Mulege better bring your tent, yard tools, chainsaw and plan to spend several days cleaning up the debris it's everywhere and the palapas are worked over by Hurricane Kay.

Augie's in Loreto had lunch at Augie's they were open and the a/c was working GOOD. Had lunch on thursday 9-15 heading north. Dorado tacos great as usual $120P. Met the owner and she said Loreto did not get the killer winds just alot of rain and the locals rode out the storm in the bar. She said at one point it was raining so hard you could not see across the malecon to the Sea of Cortez.

Lots of mud in San Ignacio but did not drive in looked open.
