They should call it the Baja 782, since it is 218 miles short of 1000 for the amateur class :light: (even the pro class is 172 short of 1000)

It is hard to do 1000 miles without doing the same tracks each time. Especially without a peninsula run. Racers will have a bit of cost savings for a short 1000.
They could have added more tracks in the south to extent the miles

Goat it is either 1000 miles or 1000 KM or anything in between, don't be so picky.

Reason, on a peninsula run there are many sections of sustained high speeds that eat up the miles quickly and are a bit easier than the pounding jeep trails around Ensenada.

Opposite is true for the crews.

The 828.25-mile race course for the BFGoodrich Tires SCORE Baja 1000, presented by 4 Wheel Parts, runs in a clockwise after the first part to and then back and back from Ojos Negros. It goes up and over the Cordillera de Molina to drop into the desert around Rm 115.

After hitting the Ventana area it will run south to the El Chinero road crossing highway 3 at Km 192 and will keep going south to Matomi wash. Halfway into Matomi Wash it exits and goes north to Azufre Wash, then to Huatamote wash, Chanate Wash and up to Morelia Junction.

From there the course will exit the desert and go to San Matias Pass road and Mike’s Sky Rancho, down to Rancho La Jolla and will run on the San Pedro Martir road to Meling Ranch. After Meling it will run to the Pacific Coast to Ejido Jaramillo and north to San Vicente where it will cross back to Valley de Trinidad then back to Ojos Negros and onto to the finish line in Ensenada.

For safety reasons, all of the Sportsman classes along with Class 11 and Class 7SX will run a reduced course of 782.49 miles.

Why are you starting multiple threads on same topic?

VWTim - 10-19-2022 at 01:03 PM

Looks like you just combined all the posts here.

We're still planning on heading down, thinking of camping somewhere near RM150/165, then try to catch again after 420.

Here's the Baja 1000 Course Map embedded in Google Maps, and cleaned up.

The map can be made full page and zoomed in close.

VWTim - 11-15-2022 at 06:49 AM

It's close!

Heading to Calexico after work tonight to cross first thing tomorrow. If you see a white Toyota Tundra w/ a roof tent and OR plates, say hey!

PaulW - 11-15-2022 at 07:21 AM

Drove from town via Morelia Jct and used the high road past Diablo lake bed to Hwy 3. The south end of the lake does not have standing water, but the north end is very flooded. That high road has many washouts that could ruin any rig if hit directly.

I can't find the official schedule for 2022. The start times. Do the trophy trucks start at 8am Saturday morning? Do the Motos head out at 4am?
Are they going up the creek bed, then up past the parqe ecological?

What's up with 344x? It's a moto, but can't be at mile 700 yet? Did he make a wrong turn and now headed opposite direction?

John

While the tag says Race Mile 60, the pine tree location is Race Mile 90.

Lead bikes near RM 150, the thrid live camera location, at 6:30am.

John, the transponder for 344x is wanky for sure... ignore it!

David K - 11-18-2022 at 08:43 AM

While the Score website may have crashed, the live tracking and video feed is still working for me. The three lead bikes are 10x, 3x, and 7x. They are between RM 205 and 215... 20 miles north from San Felipe.

torch - 11-18-2022 at 01:30 PM

dang yea the website must have crashed . I met a couple of the 10x guys pre running and they said all they have to do is finish and they get the 1x plates. the guys are pretty young but have been killing it this year.

"SCORE Baja 1000 2022 live tracking app by trackleaders.com" http://trackleaders.com/baja1k22f.php

What time are the leaders expected to finish?
One truck was claiming 2:30am. The announcers seemed sceptiy.

David K - 11-18-2022 at 03:45 PM

7x & 3x are the lead bikes... 10x fell way way back.
Lead bikes are over halfway home, nearing 550 mile marker. at 2:40pm.

The 4 leading Trophy Trucks are between San Felipe and the Sulfur Mine, with Luke McMillin in the lead (#83), followed by Bryce Menzies & Andy McMillin (#7), Dan McMillin (#23) in third, and our buddy, Cameron Steele (#16) doing 120 mph on the old Puertecitos road!

Edit, Cameron just moved into 3rd place by Race Mile 250.

Thanks for that direct link, verichip!

Figure the fastest racers average between 50 and 60 mph and divide that into the total miles (830), so approx 14-16 hours for the leaders. Bikes began, at 3 am... so if the first bike was the fastest, about 5 pm+
The first Trophy Truck began at 10 am... so if he was the fastest, about midnight to 2 am tonight... ?? Just an estimate for the fastest... if one of the first to start... Adjust from starting time since they leave one at a time each minute (or was it each 30 seconds?).

David K - 11-18-2022 at 09:33 PM

At a glance, I see 7x as the lead bike at RM 775 and Dan McMillin #23 as lead Trophy Truck near RM 555.

Cameron pushed his truck too hard, perhaps... Out before RM400.

The course is way tougher than in the past with the longer times, especially for the bikes??

Again, I just came in to take a glance and may not be seeing the full picture!

Anybody die yet? Got video links to bloody scene(s)? Some say motor sports aren’t interesting to watch unless there is some carnage, some blood,… I think violence in sports was the reason they invented the instant replay, eh? It’s what sells ads!

PaulW - 11-19-2022 at 01:36 AM

first 3 or 7 ?

PaulW - 11-19-2022 at 01:49 AM

12:16 PM
3x, 7x, 4x at 830.9 miles
83 Luke, 23 Dan, 43 Roeseler, 19 Tim Herbst, 21L Giistavo Vid.., etc
7 Menzies and 16 Steele missing now
Luke 83 replaced drive shaft and lost the lead after 4:20PM. Now it looks like he is heading for the win.

Weather man report that the driveshaft was replace was incorrect and was not involved. Actually the tire failed and got wrapped around the brake damaging a brake line. It did not take long to fix. Video on race-dezert.com shows the fix.
Turns out the finish is the same as the order at midnight.

Thanks Jim.
The page I was seeing had far-different overall times than the more standard 16+ hours from your page. I deleted that observation.

SCORE is riddled with inconsistencies. There were two different versions of scheduled times (the web site is different from their press release).

I saw a few interesting injuries. Of FB there is vid of someone missing a leg, quite gruesome.
I see an El Cajon bad guy got some karma. The guy was briefly famous last year when he tried to house sexually violent predators in his rental house in my area — I see he got all busted up and is hospitalized — karma sometimes gets it right!
