The El Presidente Hotel-San Quintín, in 1974 (U.C.)

Today, it is called the Hotel Misión Santa María. Previously known as one of the Desert Inn, and then Las Pintas hotels, going back 48 years.

In July 1974, I was doing a resarch trip with my folks to create an updated road guide, now that the highway was completed (7 months earlier).

We pulled in to check on this new beach resort hotel, still not open, as well as the Cielito Lindo Motel, next door.

Many of you may be surprised by the swimming pool you see. It was between the hotel and the big sand beach.

The El Niño storm of 1979 or 1983(?) covered it with waves and sand! That was the end of that... as it could happen again!

On Google Earth, recent times, no pool!

Thanks David for the historical perspective of one of my favorite stops every year. I make a point to stay for two nights so I can have a full day of nothing but that wide sandy beach full of sand dollars and the waves breaking too fast to ride and peeling off in both directions top to bottom. It is a thing of beauty.

Their restaurant is good too and even better with the view during a sunset. The sunrise must be nice also. haha

I do catch the sunrises from my second story room for an even better view of those impossible to ride waves. Imagination can a wonderful thing.

Peace, love and fish tacos to all Nomads.
