Cheap clean hotels with secure parking and good food 5 to 1

Brudentravel - 12-7-2022 at 07:54 AM

Will be traveling solo on a motorcycle from Mexicali to Cabo taking 5 then 1 with side trips along the way. Looking for quiet cheap motels to stay at on my way down with a good restaurant or close to a good restaurant (not interested in riding all day then riding to dinner) and secure parking. Love places like Bahia de Los Angles for reference. Hear La Huerta in San Ingacio is good.

Any ideas appreciated. Don't need or want anything fancy.

The first that came to my mind along your route was the La Huerta in San Ignacio. It is on your right, after the giant mission church. Restaurant on site.

In Bahía de los Angeles, the Casa del Sol usually gets the vote. It is on the right, after the Sailboat monument. Restaurant on site.

In Loreto, I got a room at the Hotel Angra (in 2017, for 830 pesos =$41.50), it has secured parking in front of the rooms, which are in a courtyard of sorts. It was nice, had wifi, and a continental breakfast was included. It was on a parallel street north of the main one into town, near a gas station.

In San Ignacio keep driving past La Huerta up a couple blocks on the right, La Posada, simple, family run, old school digs, 500 pesos. Walk a few blocks to restaurants in el centro.
In G. Negro, a block and a half north of the main drag, Hotel Ballena, not sure of street name, but before the tank on tower, (ask around also simple to find). Same deal, old school, simple, clean and friendly place, 600 pesos. Same same, walking distance to main street and food.

500 to 700 pesos for a room is the norm for business travelers and domestic clientele throughout the peninsula. All have AC, Internet and TV, if you desire a pool, bilingual staff, and on site restaurant, you know where to go, look for signage in english.

My information is a bit old (2016) but the Hotel Hacienda right in the center of Mulege was a great stop for me. It has secure off-street parking for your bike, very reasonable rates, a restaurant, courtyard, laundry facilities(if you need it) and is right next to the town square.

There may be live music in the square, which is fun for a while, but may go on longer than you care to listen to it. It was good for me because they set aside a few rooms that are dog friendly, and it was a short walk to the river where she could run, and swim.

Mulege is the closest thing to what Baja was like quite a few years ago. I like it!

This may be too late for you, but we can vouch for the Hacienda in Mulegé as well. However, the parking gate was not closed for us over night and the restaurant was not open (February 2023). That said, there were some adventure mountain bikers there who brought their bikes into the courtyard and this may be a possibility for a moto as well. Clean and friendly with good hot water. The lights outside of our room were on all night, but with enough tequila, this shouldn't be a problem.

Rice and Beans in San Ignacio is ok and combines a restaurant with a motel. It’s on the main road in town.

El Moro in Santa Rolisita about 80KM further south has the same setup.

Hotel Santa Fe in Loreto has a restaurant but there are better places in walking disance.

the quiet cheap motels are also the safest
increasingly hard to find in Baja
as prices go up and population increases the thieves move in

it might worth compiling a list of always safe places in Baja
quiet, safe, inexpensive

That's the old Presidente/LaPinta? My first stay there the monument was out in the open before the military took it over.

There really should have been some respect for the Eagel Monument... and the museum that was below it. Mama Espinoza sent fossils and other things there from her collections... Where they went when the military closed this public square to the public is anyone's guess.
