Current Bay of L.A. Water Temp?

DosMars - 12-22-2022 at 02:51 PM

A group of us are heading down between X-mas and the New Year. Does anyone have a current water temperature for the area?
I'm finding trends online, just wondering if there's anything a little more accurate out there.

Thanks!

Just asked Google, got this link: https://seatemperature.net/current/mexico/bahia-de-los-angel...

Says it is 64°, 34 minutes ago.
This also came with the temperatur figure:

Today water temperature in Bahia de los Angeles is 64.4°F. This is cool bathing water, but acceptable for short dives for physically fit and hardened people. Continuous exposure to such water for more than four hours can lead to severe hypothermia. In any case, the general weather is also important. So, the air temperature at the same time will reach 68°F.

Yes, I got that also. But a couple of links down I got a current reading of 67. Was hoping someone down there might be able to stick a toe in the water?

Warm in summer. Cool in winter. This time of year it is in the 60s, so too cold for swimming w/o wetsuit, in my book.

the waters around Bahia de los Angles are very deep (thus cold) - the strong north winds enhance that tendency for cold water.
NOAA publishes new water temps every day:

expect around 65F water temps all winter

Terrrafin SST water temp has it at 62.5 today. Inner bay.

Yes, wind and upwelling will turn everything over and this is the windy season...
Thanks for the insight, I'll expect low sixties and count myself lucky if I find 65!

I have seen mid 50s there, more than once, but it was 20-30 years ago.

Water too cold?

I suppose it is all relative to what you are used to. My first exposure to Baja waters was in February of 1986. After driving down from Alaska with my family, we felt the water in Bahia Conception was just right!

It was a little less "right" along some of the other beaches, but we were in the water fairly frequently without wet suits.
