thats the way we like to start! surfhat - 1-1-2023 at 10:46 AM
I have been watching the prerunner rides in anticipation of the race. It is always a thrill every year.
Along with the Baja off-road races, the Dakar has been a staple of mine since the days when it went to Dakar before South America and now Said Arabia.
Maybe some day the Dakar can go back to Dakar. Paris to Dakar is only alive in my imagination.
I wish the daily TV reports were an hour long. Jamming all the vehicles into a half hour limits so much of the action.
I have not looked for TV coverage yet. What network is broadcasting the Dakar this time?
Thanks to all here on Nomad.

Saudi Arabia. What is so hard about spellcheck that it doesn't recognize Said Arabia. There it goes again. Saudi, Saudi, Saudi. Don Pisto - 1-1-2023 at 11:29 AM

I believe coverage will be on Peac-ck.....if you're a rabid SX fan like me you'll need Peac-ck anyway this season! BRAAAAP!David K - 1-1-2023 at 04:55 PM
Will any other network show recaps after the daily events, other than Peac ock? It isn't an expensive addition, but gee wiz, how many networks will we
need to subscribe too above our cable bill and already added Netflix, Prime, and Disney+?
Yes, that is what I saw, too. My big screen TV has YouTube. Very nice!
Ricky is out of the race!

❌ Fall and withdrawal for Brabec ❌
The HRC - Honda Racing Corporation rider crashed at km 274 of the special and was taken care of by the Dakar medical team. Suffering from neck pain,
Ricky Brabec was transported to a hospital for additional examinations. In 2020, he became the first American winner of the Dakar, and also the one
who ended a series of 18 consecutive KTM victories on motorcycles.PaulW - 1-4-2023 at 08:07 AM

I will go along with your assessment, David, about how many networks do we need to subscribe to.
We already have Directv with two receivers (SD and LA). Plus Disney+, HBO Max. Apple TV, Paramount+, Prime (Amazon), Hulu.
That all ads up to $240.00 per month!
I think we will nix the Directv receivers and go with only DTV streaming, but that leaves us without San Diego and Los Angeles networks. Currently, we
unplug the receivers in Ensenada and move them to San Felipe. The DTV streaming may save us $50.00 USD per month. I have not looked into it yet.

An hour of the Dakar showed up n Cox Cable in San Diego on CNBC yesterday from 8am to 9am. and is on right now again at 8am to 9am.
It is good to see it on my TV instead of short clips on my laptop on youtube. I have not checked whether it will be broadcasted during the work week
yet, but hope so.
Somehow my DVR knew I wanted to watch it and recorded it before I found it myself. Big brother? haha PaulW - 1-8-2023 at 09:53 AM
I wonder if Robby Gordon would ever join the Dakar madness?
As an entertainment value, Robby has never lacked the entertainment quotient in Baja racing.
The hummers may have been his undoing, but what do I know about the choices his entertainment value has provided.
Thank you Robbie for the years of dedication to Baja off road racing.
you must remember Robby's dakar incident a half dozen years ago passing
sandwiches between cars at high speed causing a major accident? classic Robby!surfhat - 1-8-2023 at 02:46 PM
Could the greening of Saudi Arabia be at hand?
It surely cannot be because of manmade fossil fuel use over the last more than a hundred years.
Some may question how mankind could manage to affect weather climate patterns.
Look beyond yourselves/ourselves for the answer. It is us who are responsible for leaving mother earth to our future generations in the best possible
conditions we can.
Along with solar and wind, fusion may be the solution for a cleaner planet. That technology cannot come soon enough.
Making our current nuclear technology irrelevant will be mankind's savior.

For those who don't know Dakar, it is a multi-day rally with many classes of vehicles, not just motorcycles. In Saudi Arabia the past couple of years,
but originally in North Africa, thus the name. Same variety of vehicles like Off Road racing, but adapted for the style popular with European
countries.
On TV, for the nightly summary (as seen on YouTube) they feature just a few classes: Motorcycles, Cars, UTVs/ side-by-sides(two classes), Quads, and
Trucks (that look like trash trucks). Here is the official website: https://www.dakar.com/en/
It isn't easy! Cresting sand dunes and this year flooded plains.

Watching videos of cars stirring up dust is like watching paint dry. Only thing worth watching is the crashes.
Did they make any highlight reels with just the crashes/deaths that people want to see?David K - 1-15-2023 at 11:09 AM
If you actually watched, you would see it is a sand, not dust being kicked up... which falls instantly back to earth. However, since you hate race
motors (electric or gas), there are planty of camels!
