Camping Prices

Diver - 4-10-2005 at 07:25 AM

I was just browsing another baja site that listed the rates at some popular camping beaches.

They said $10 per night at El Requeson !?!?!

Two years ago it was $3 !!

Anyone know if this is true ??
Any other camping rates for this year ?

Gypsies ?
Rancho St Inez ?
Orchards ?
El Requeson ?
Coyote ?
Manfreds ?
La Ventana ?

Is Los Ceritos still just a parking lot full of flies or has someone fixed it up ?
What about the place on the water just outside of Todos Santos ? Heard the camping and hotel rooms were damaged last year ?

Most of the beaches here were 7 dollars some raised there price to $10 for easter I don't know if they will put them back down or not.

Armando...8 miles south of Mulege said he's keeping $7 a night with palapa and CLEAN detached showers and toilets.

comitan - 4-10-2005 at 09:24 AM

Last December requeson was 50.00 pesos.

bajajudy - 4-10-2005 at 09:36 AM

The place outside of Todos Santos that had palapas on the beach and maybe 8 rooms is still there. We stayed in one of the rooms about a year ago...definitely not 4 star but clean and hot water. Our friend did not feel as secure and slept on the top of his bed with a blanket that they had furnished..he didnt like the look of the sheets....ours were fine. And I look.....ain't getting into a strange bed without checking for critters.
The restaurant is still there but we did not eat there. I dont that that the rooms were cheap...somthing like 35 or 40 which I felt was a lot for what we got but............
Los Cerritos has been sold and the coconut telegraph has it that the new owners are kicking all the rv's out. I have never been there so dont know exactly what that means but someone else told me that camping for the night or two was still allowed.
We paid 30pesos about 3 months ago to camp south of Requeson and La Perla.
Manfred is back at his place and it is much cleaner but I dont remember what we paid...hot showers and clean toilets. and of course Manfred who should have been a field marshall. I got a kick out of watching him lead a caravan of Airstreams out of his place...he was in charge and loving it.
buen viaje

Pay for camping? In Baja? Why?

why pay?

Sharksbaja - 4-11-2005 at 11:17 AM

so you can cozy up next to that excited whining neighbor from L.A.

Pompano - 4-12-2005 at 07:36 AM

I am not trying to be snooty, but we try never to camp in pay places..much prefering the off-road spots or isolated beaches that are free. I think I would pay twice the campfee in gas just to be by ourselves. It's more Baja and 'yours'. Here's a freebie on the Pacific coast near some good surfing.

Only reason I can think of is if you wanted to go into, say, San Felipe for the afternoon and didn't want to drive far afterward. We want to do that the next time we're down there. But clearly the quality of the time is going to be a lot less than if you're off camping by yourself in a spot you chose.

Playa Requeson rates

turtleandtoad - 4-12-2005 at 01:50 PM

50 pesos/nite, and that was during Semena Santa, when it was packed with locals (and me).

Pompano - 4-12-2005 at 01:55 PM

How was it with that crowd scene...did you get any sleep at all? Any real problems?

turtleandtoad - 4-12-2005 at 02:20 PM

Actually it wasn't bad. Lots of noise and action during the day but everyone quieted down by 2230-2300. We did have the occasional firework go off around 2400 but not often.

The place was a zoo (but a fun zoo) during the days with every vendor you could think of driving/walking around, kids playing ball on the road, people flying kites (I had my stunt kite up there with the rest of them). The wind created some interesting problems though. More than one inflatable boat was seen flying over the campgrounds:lol:

The only problem I had was when I tried to leave in my toad to run up to Mulage for some shopping. It took me about 4 trys to get out of there. They really needed a traffic cop on that one-lane enterance road!

turtleandtoad - 4-12-2005 at 02:25 PM

Oh, also Rancho St Inez is still 50 pesos/nite and their Taco Dorados are delicious:biggrin:

Pompano - 4-12-2005 at 02:31 PM

Good to hear about Rcho St Inez still reasonable..we have camped there a lot with our 5th Wheel. Oddly enough, that was the last place furthest south that we could get satellite TV reception via Direcway on a 18" roof dish...oh yes, even in Baja I need my TV! Got to watch Tiger make those putts!

turtleandtoad - 4-12-2005 at 02:43 PM

Yeah, I think Rancho St Inez must be a well kept secret. When I was there, there was one other RV'er and a couple of tent campers and that was it. The RV park (if you want to call it a "park") on the highway was about half full! I do wish they would fix the road though, it's getting pretty rough.

I thought about trying my Dish there but the wind was so bad I was afraid it would tear the thing off the roof mount. Dish works fine in San Quinten though, that's as far south as I've been able to get a signal with that 18" dish. I'm a CNN junkie myself.

turtleandtoad - 4-12-2005 at 04:27 PM

After 23 years traveling around the world in the military sea services and 10 years doing it as a Marine Electrical/Electronics Consultant for an International Naval Architect/Marine Engineering firm, I retired so I could travel around the North/South American Continents in an RV. Not bad for a Moon Child. :o

Actually I watch both CNN and Fox, plus BBC World News, CBN, and Links (a news program that takes segments from different mid-east and european TV), to get different outlooks on everything. So I won't hold it against you if you only watch Fox, just be very sorry for your limited viewing habits.

turtleandtoad - 4-12-2005 at 04:58 PM

Hey, no fair using a C band dish!!! I'm not going to play if you cheat

I'm kinda limited to portable type stuff since I live in an RV. (I keep getting this picture in my head of me with a 20' dish on top, scary :o )

Besides, I thought you were going to turn that 20' dish into a palapa?

turtleandtoad - 4-12-2005 at 05:34 PM

Well, I think we've highjacked this thread long enough so I think I'll go pick on someone else.

But, before I leave here are a few more prices.

Mona Lisa (Ensenada) $15 US/nite (They prefer US money)
Cielito Lindo (San Quinten) $8 US/nite
Malarrimo (Guerrero Negro) $18 US/nite
Las Palmas (Santa Rosalia) $14 US/nite
Riviera Del Mar (Loreto) $15 US/nite
Aquamarina (La Paz) $18 US/nite (recent increase do to skyrocketing elect rates in the La Paz area)
Vagabundos (Los Cabos) $18 US/nite

All of these are as of March/April

Almost all of the above will give you a discount if you show a Vagabudos Membership card. Discount ranges from 10 to 20%.

wilderone - 4-13-2005 at 10:03 AM

But I'd hardly call that "camping."

turtleandtoad - 4-13-2005 at 12:25 PM

Concur,

I call it RV'ing. and at my age, that's all I'm up for. Boondocking is the closest I'm liable to get to real "Camping". I put in my time sleeping on rocks and now like my comfort. (Altho I still do a little multi-day backpacking, especially if there's a fishing hole at the end of the hike).

The prices reflect the maximum hookups available at each location. As in the Cielito Lindo; where electricitiy is only available when they fire up the generator, usually for a few hours in the morning and then again in the evening.

For true camping, you shouldn't have to pay anything because there shouldn't be anyone close enough to collect! :P
