no-see-ums

I've heard a number of Spanish words for "no-see-ums", the tiny black gnats with a nasty bite. On this forum I've seen "jejenes" and "banditos", while an expat friend in Panama informs me they are called "chitras". What other Spanish words or phrases have you heard to describe the hiker's least favorite companion?

I am pretty sure I have heard them referred to as "bobos".

Yes! I remember Osprey (George Bergin) using that expression.

I talked with my neighbor down the street last night, who has much more time SOB than I do. He said that Bobos are a different bug than "No see-ums", because they don't bite, but they are sure in your face!
