Day 1 SoCal to San Felipe

We crossed the border at calexico east border 11 ish on Friday. Made quick left after going under the border awning and walked back for FMNs. Also a convenient bathroom break.

Google took us right down the throat of Mexicali which is fine. Note the left lane look like a turn lane but you can go straight through.

Gas at the chevron in San Felipe and some ice and beer from the 7-11 next door.

We stayed at Las Palmas hotel in San Felipe which was fine and had the Mountain View room. We ate at Alfredo’s inside the hotel and a local who ate with us said it was the best restaurant in San Felipe and I believe him.

Day 2 all the way to San Felipe.

A stop at the store in Gonzaga bay on the great Mexico 5. Gas at the Pemex in Villa Jesus Maria and breakfast at the small restaurant on the north side of the parking lot.

There are two dirt section detours north of Vizcaino. Couldn’t see a thing in front of us because of the dust on one section.

The road to Punta Abreojos had a few more potholes than last year and when you see the orange barrels slow down.

We stayed in the cabins at La Bocana and the combination of the hurricane removing some sand and the extreme high tide had water lapping right up to the Cabin stairs.

Return trip straight show to SoCal.

Reverse order of stops back. Again google route right up the middle of Mexicali.

Only glitch was before the Costco, google did not tell us to stay in the left two lanes and go under the busy cross road.

Arrived Tuesday afternoon around 3:30 at the sentri lane entrance. According to border wait time this is one of the best times to make this turn, not because there is any wait for the sentri lane but because the ready lane wait is short and so the left lane does not back up as ready and sentri share the left turn.

Since I had a passenger without his sentri card, but was waiting for an interview, he was hoping he could somehow get through and walk in for the interview.

And while the Mexicans let us right through at A below, at B where border patrol sat, he had to get out and walk through.

You can not double back to pick up a pedestrian, inspite of entries marked with x.

so you have to have them walk up to the gas track at C.

It was only 102 degrees ;). Gassed up and kept going.

The non-sentri pedestrian can be left off just before the large tall fence on the right of the SENTRI lane. They will need to jump the Krail and walk between two other K rails plus hop over a short metal rail. Then walk over toward the US border.
Show the passport to the gate agent, then continue walking toward the CBP US offices. It is about a 1500' walk to the parking area next to the duty-free store. That is where all the vehicles meet their walking passengers.
