Suggestions for 2 Week Trip to Mulege

BeachSeeker - 10-10-2023 at 10:14 PM

We have a 13 day, 12 night Baja trip planned in mid November. This is kind of a shotgun blast post just throwing out our plans and asking for any feedback that might help.

We can't leave San Diego until around 11:00am on the first day, so we are planning on only going as far as the Chenowth Lodge. Next day we'll head to Bahia de Los Angeles and stay there for 4 nights. After that, we will go to Mulege for 6 nights. On the way home we'll stop somewhere near San Felipe for 1 night.

This trip is mostly just to explore some of the remote beaches, but I do plan to bring my fishing kayak, and intend to spend most of the mornings fishing. We also plan to spectate the Baja 1000 as it passes near Concepcion.

Unfortunately, we have to have somewhat reliable Wi-Fi where we stay. Not that we have a lot of work to do, but there are some commitments that force us to check up at least in the morning and evening for a couple minutes. This makes the more remote places like Gonzaga more difficult. We would love to spend a day on some of our favorite beaches in the area, but don't want to drive all the way back to San Felipe for the night and Alfonsinas doesn't sound like it will work.

Lodging - We understand we have some difficult lodging requirements. The place must have somewhere to safely store my kayak when we leave for the day to explore, have reliable Wi-Fi, some sort of kitchen, allow a small dog, and preferably be on the beach or near enough where I could easily get my kayak to the water in the mornings. Any suggestions on rental houses or hotels in Bahia de Los Angeles and Mulege(outside of town)?

Are there any laws I need to know about hauling my kayak in the back of my truck? It sticks out about 5' past my tailgate. I'll have a red flag on it.

Any tips on kayak fishing Bahia de Los Angeles and Bahia de Concepcion? I completely understand the threat of an offshore wind, no need to elaborate. Pelegics would be great, but I'm happy even if I end up only catching Triggerfish, Cabrillo, Grouper, etc.

Anything I am missing here? Places we should consider? Is it worth spending a day on the Pacific, maybe Asunsion, and taking a day from Concepcion? Thanks!

villia bahia in BOLA is nice... north of town with wi fi. set back off the road on the beach... good launching. a little rustic but clean... they have an outdoor kitchen for guest to use... also have an all inclusive food thing going... but I think id do my own thing on food. tables and palapas on the water. Leaving a kayak on the beach at the common areas overnight would not be a concern of mine. make sure to ask for ocean front.

while at concepcion make sure to be at Playa Buenaventura for lunch on taco tues... live music and a great afternoon crowd.

Thanks for the info. I'll check out Villa Bahia online. Definitely plan on making it to a Taco Tuesday at Playa Buenaventura.

Also in Bahía de L.A. is Campo Archelon, with rental rooms as well as palapa camping (with cots included): https://www.campoarchelon.com/inmuebles/

Thanks David. I've checked out Archelon, and it seems nice as well. Only 1 place left for the dates we are there, but it is our backup plan. Currently waiting to hear back about a rental house at "Ricardo's Beach."

Any suggestions for lodging on Concepcion? RentMulege seems like the best option so far, but its not on a beach where I could just roll the yak into the water. Anyone know how easy access is to the adjacent beach, or even Santispac for launching my kayak?

I messaged Mark, these are no longer available. Seems he's got legal problems again. His very curt response indicated this, along with a note that he's hoping to have the rooms/house back for rent after the New Year. Is Munoz back for more?

Thanks for reporting this.
I don't understand why business folks cannot let us know when their popular resorts close down, or are on vacation, or (as another Nomad says) no longer the owners there.

I completely agree. I understand things are different in Baja, and we definitely get used to places here in the U.S. that have instant online booking and a phone they answer.

I've been trying to get a reservation for 3 places for this trip and just getting very little or no response.

Jenny's Beach Resort - Percebu
Alfonsinas - Gonzaga
Ricardo's Beach Rentals - Bahia de Los Angeles

I'm trying WhatsApp, Email, Facebook, everything. Just no response for days.

The other 2 places we are staying for this trip have been better. Chenowth Losge has online reservations, and RentMulege was awesome and responded right away.
