As usual David, well done. Been there several times. This area is fascinating due to the very large number of pertroglyphs inscribed in every nook and cranny. The time to inscribe the vast number of markings must have taken a great deal of time. Makes one think of food and other resources needed for such a length of time. Truly a "treasure" to be experienced in Baja.

Does "Las Pintas" literally mean "the spots"? -- not something like paintings or petroglyphs?

Hmmm, good question. I got this from somewhere and put it where you read it:

"Not easy to see in these photos, but the boulders are covered in petroglyphs… thus the name ‘Las Pintas’ (the marked spot)."

What I gathered...
The marked spot = a place that has been marked (with petroglyphs) by the Indians.

Now, Google says pintas is pints. Maybe it is short for pintadas (painted) even though they are pecked rocks, not painted.
