Room recommendations

We are headed South the first of November to Lapaz to pre run the 1K. Looking to overnight in Mulege or Loreto on the way down. We will have our race car and pre runner, so parking/security is an issue. Any recommendations would be appreciated.
I know Mulege has some pretty narrow street, so maybe something off of the highway. Would Loreto be a better pick?

Loreto will have more options for secure parking and ease of movement for your vehicles and crew.

I would go on to Loreto. The old La Pinta hotel (don't know what they call it now) is on the beach with a huge parking area, great pool, and good? restaurant.

"La Pinta", Desert Inn, etc. Hasn't been open for quite a long time.

It was long in the tooth for many years with old tired rooms. On the flip side they had a nice pool and walk up bar and it was on the water. I have been lucky and have only gotten food poisoning once in Baja and that was the place that I got the touristas from. It could happen anywhere but I never ate there again.

The La Mission is by far the finest hotel in town with very secure parking in back.

Playa Boutique Hotel is nice, reasonably priced with very secure parking.

I have gotten food poisoning a few times in Mexico, and it was always after a meal in a "nice" restaurant. I have eaten lots of street tacos, tamales off the woman who walks the beach selling them out of her cooler, and never gotten sick.

I have a theory that it is just as likely that people get the "turistas" from the unhygenic way I have personally observed that they wash dishes in a lot of Mexican restaurant kitchens, as from the food.
In the US and Canada, restaurants have commercial dishwashers that use very hot water. Here, they wash the restaurant dishes like they do at home- a plastic tub of tepid water with bits of food floating around in it, with some bacteria-laden old scrubby or sponge, and a little rinse. No bleach dip, no sterilization of any kind. No big deal in your own home- household members all share the same germs anyway, but you can't do that in a restaurant.

I'll take the plastic plate with a clean plastic bag slipped over it at a taco stand over nice dishware at a "nice" restaurant where you can't see what goes on in the kitchen, any day.

One "nice" place I used to frequent a lot, I got a bad case of food poisoning from. I went in the next afternoon, when I knew they'd be setting up for dinner, but not serving yet, and took the owner aside, telling him I had gotten food poisoning there the night before. He knew I was a regular, he'd seen me there often. I assumed he'd want to know- any real restauranteur would.
Instead of saying sorry and he'd look into what might have happened, he crossed his arms and stated that it was "impossible" for anyone to get sick from eating there. Needless to say, I never went back. I then heard stories from several others about getting food poisoning at his place.

My last food poisoning in Mexico was back in 1975 in Mazatlan. I think it came from a street vendor cheese snack. Been queasy in other parts of the world but I think a certain amount of alcohol kills of most bugs.
My Bud got it bad at Anna's on Santispac in 1997.

hola,

in loreto, my friends and i stay at HOTEL ANGRA, a small, newer boutique hotel that has very secure parking and fantastic rooms that are very large. the parking area and hotel has an arched entryway and they lock the gate at night and will open it for you if you want to leave very early. they also have free wifi.

the arched entry will not allow very tall vehicles.

the owners speak fluent english and they also serve continental breakfasts in the morning.

In Mulege the Hotel Cuesta Real is 1.5K south of town along the estuary. Good parking, but not fenced off. A pool and wifi. Years ago a nice little cafe.

Lodging may be available at Playa Buenaventura on Bahía Concepción. You can call for reservations. Try to get there on Taco Tuesday, we’ll worth it.

Hotel Serinidad just south of Mulige has room for trailers. I've not heard of issues there other than the occasional airplane theft.

And in Loreto the Oasis has room for trailers. Plus the fore mentioned Mission.

I haven't stayed there for a couple of years, but Mark and Olivia's son seemed to be running the place then. I wonder if he is still in the picture, and if the place is closed, or under someone else's control?

I've met Mark and Olivia and the son. The location left much to be desired. Exposed and wind-blown.
