Mulege doctor?

Howard - 11-6-2023 at 08:10 PM

Someone in my party has gastrointestinal stomach problems. Does a one know a Dr (preferably at least little English spoken) in Mulege? Obviously there will not be a specialist but a GP you trust?

Howard,
Maybe a better choice would be Santa Rosalia since it’s the hub of the municipality?

I've had good luck seeing the doctors at the clinic. Most speak some English because they have done some training in the States.

Is this just from something (s)he ate? If so, till you get the doctor situation figured out, I'd recommend eating nothing but papaya for a couple of days. Lots of it, and plenty of liquids. Oral electrolytes if they've got the runs (Electrolit or Pedialyte is available everywhere).

I'm no doc, but have a LOT of experience with food-borne illness throughout Latin America, and have figured out what works (for me, at least).

I totally agree. My experiences in South America in the 70s convinced me. If active culture yogurt can be added ( not the sugary super market type) it can restore gut health even better. Salud.

Charcoal pills also help a lot for food-borne illness.
And eating papaya is a good suggestion, as well as some of the papaya seeds, which apparently kill parasites.
And drinking lots of fresh green coconut water usually fixes up the "turistas".

The clinic will fix your sick friend up. A shot or two will clear it up. I recommend probiotics when you get back to the states.

You are probably right about killing parasites, but what is a safe dose? I have watched Mexicans gathering seeds to be used as a meat tenderizer, which makes me wonder what it could do to my digestive tract?
