We've got a great old RV that needs a little boost.
I'm thinking about putting a turbo onto our '89 ford 6.9 liter diesel. It's the same engine as the pre-'95 turbo diesels.
Anyone done this ?
Suggestions on the turbo to use; a few after-markets offer them.
Any info would be appreciated to get some more power to the old RV for the next trip south as we plan to tow the boat loaded with toys.
Thanks

mine absolutely ROCKED!!!
its since been sold, but while i had it......sweet!
but gas mileage sucked at 13 per gal. now look how much diesel costs!!
when i need another one, i'm getting a dodge cummins though. Da Bull knows!

Diesel here in Mex is still about $1.71 a gallon, almost $1 a gallon less that El Centro CA
Glad that's what I'm driving. (F250, F350)
Turbo is good. For me, much of the milage factor is how I drive.

reliable, efficient and will take you to hell and back..trust me I know
Whistler is right about the gas mileage on the new trucks...although I've yet to "bomb" this truck at all...cuz its the Desert Limo...no off-road for
this one...
The Desert Tank is under construction in Denver, Colorado...full cage, removed the bed, full flat bed with tube frame complete mounts for all
accessories...rear suspension to be re-worked with full triple-bypass...its the new Desertbull Racing Chase Truck...new interior complete with custom
aluminum radio boxes...and much more!
I'm jones' as my off-road truck has been under the knife leaving me with no real Baja truck...wanted to head to LA Bay via Coco's this weekend, but
the truck is still under the knife...
Capt. Mike...we gotta set up a flyin-and loop trip back to the plane via the new Dez Tank...

93 runnin strong

My 93 dodge diesel gets 17mpg no matter what I hook up to it or load it up with. It gets the same loaded or empty. I am happy it gets such good
mileage considering all the work I have done to the drivetrain. I installed a new venture 4500 tranny, put 411 gears in the diffs along with lockers
both front and rear. Heaver duty springs and double shocked, real fat anti sway bars, stabelizers and heavy duty stearing arms. Even had a custom
made 50 gallon fuel tank installed under the bed that desert bull told me about. Yes the truck will go just about anywhere. The brand new cummins
turbo diesel with the common rail technology will get better mileage than the previous motors. Cummins has had the common rail motors in boats for
over a year now and they are sweet. The new cabo's come with them. fishin rich

Many years ago, I think in the 70's or early 80's VW made a pickup diesel, and those that I talked with said the mileage was super. Any of those
still running around?? How were they for reliability? What was the mileage like?

I knew several businesses that had the VW diersels in the 80's. Thy were diesel fuel injection dealers and figured they were about the best around
then for the money.
I've looked on Ebay recently and have seen very few listed. I think one would be great right now for the running around to town or the border etc.

This is the base for my new "Baja beach cottage"
It has a Cummins C 8.3 @ +/- 300 HP
Milage...Not so good.
